Adam Maag, 43, passed away peacefully at KU Medical Hospital. He was surrounded by friends and family who loved and cared about him deeply. He fought as hard as he could with supernatural strength and courage until the bitter-end but always trusted our Lord to bring him home in His perfect timing.
First and foremost, Adam was a follower of Jesus Christ and attended Grace Calvary Chapel in St. Joseph, Missouri. Secondly, he was a husband, a father to three amazing children, a son, a brother, a friend, an uncle, a nephew and a cousin. He grew up in the St. Joseph/Savannah area. At the age of 18, he married his high school sweetheart and together they went to the University of MIssouri-Columbia. After earning their degrees, they set out on a journey together that would last over 25 years.
Adam had a huge impact on so many people during his time here on earth. He was known for his deep care of his family and friends, his strong work ethic, servitude, fearlessness in adversity, wisdom and much more. Adam was a man of strong moral character. Adam was intelligent, innovative and a “Jack of all trades.” There wasn’t much he couldn’t figure out, especially if he had a roll of duct tape.
Adam viewed his life as a gift from God. Adam knew he was created to fulfill His plans for His purposes. However, he also knew this earthly life was temporary, which was instrumental in facing trials and tribulation with grace and peace in his heart. He chose early on to, “look unto Jesus, the Author and Perfector” of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Adam lived out 2 Corinthians 4:18 well: “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen…”. He felt the key to life was not happiness but holiness. Adam was no stranger to enduring challenges and difficulties in life. However, he met adversity with strength and courage that passed all understanding.
Adam did everything with his whole being. He did nothing half-heartedly or half-way. He knew he was doing everything unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23). He poured into his job at Altec and various projects, but most of all, he poured into people. After spending time with him, you left changed in an impactful way.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, teaching his children life skills, fixing up his family’s farmhouse, reading the Bible every day to his family and working at Altec with “some really great guys,” as he would often say. Adam had very little “free” time, but when he did, he enjoyed biking with his kids, camping, playing music with his family and working on various projects.
Adam will be greatly missed by so many friends and family. He was an extraordinary human being and somehow managed to fit two lifetimes into one with all that he did and accomplished and the impact he had on others. Adam loved fiercely because “…He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19).
Survivors include his wife, Courtnie Maag of the home; parents, Allen (Rita) Maag of St. Joseph and Kathy (Jim) Hellerich of Savannah; children, Stephen Maag, Alexander Maag, and Elizabeth Maag all of the home; siblings Cody Maag and Jacob Maag both of Savannah; and stepbrother, Josh Hellerich of New Jersey.
