KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its schedule for the 2020 volleyball season, Wednesday afternoon. All 2020-2021 schedules were approved by the Association's CEO Council on Jun. 15, and the Institutional Representative Council (IRC) on Jun. 9.
In response to the NCAA Division II requirement of 20 maximum allowable contests for the 2020 volleyball season, the MIAA Scheduling Subcommittee modified previous schedules. MIAA volleyball teams will be allowed to consolidate currently scheduled dates to create non-conference opportunities if desired, making the following schedule subject to change.
Missouri Western is scheduled for 10 home matches and 10 on the road. The Griffons are set to open the 2020 season on Sept. 15 at Central Missouri. The home opener will come on Sept. 19 against Northwest Missouri State. The Griffons close their home schedule with four-straight in the MWSU Fieldhouse against 2019 NCAA DII Runner-Up, Nebraska Kearney, Fort Hays State, Newman and Central Oklahoma before ending the season with road matches at Washburn and Emporia State. Start times will be announced at a later date.
The Griffons finished the 2019 season with a 17-13 overall record, going 11-9 against MIAA opponents and finishing fifth in the MIAA standings. The team will feature three returning All-MIAA selections including 2019 First Team All-MIAA middle blocker Ali Tauchen.
