Mustangs complete perfect weekend with 7-4 win over Nevada Griffons

The St. Joseph Mustangs used a big fifth inning to help push their win streak to 10 games, completing a perfect weekend and defeating the Nevada Griffons 7-4 on Sunday. 

The Mustangs took scored in the first inning to take the lead on an RBI single from Jeter Mauzey, but in the bottom half of the inning the Griffons would score two to take the lead. 

After a home run from Dom Felix tied the game in the second inning, the Griffons would again take the lead in the third inning.  The Mustangs would tie the game back up in the fourth with an RBI single from Trevor McCollum. 

The lead would be taken back for good by the Mustangs in the fifth inning.  A triple from Jordan Black would score two runs, a double from Felix would later bring Black in to score as well.  A sacrifice hit from Darius Freeman would score Felix for the final Mustangs run, leaving them up 7-3 after five innings.

The Griffons would score their final run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

Mid Buchanan alumni Denton Biller started the game, giving up three runs and walking six batters.  St. Joseph Christian alum Camden Lutz would earn the win pitching 1.2 innings and striking out four in relief of Biller. 

Felix led the way hitting going 3 for 5 with two RBIs.

The Mustangs are now 22-2 on the season and are on a ten game winning streak.  They have on off day on Monday and will travel to Carroll, Iowa for a matchup with the Carroll Merchants on Tuesday at 7pm.
