He was born January 15, 1954 in St. Joseph to James and Marion (Weitlich) Jones. Robert was a 1973 graduate of Lafayette High School, where he was an excellent marksman in J-ROTC and a popular guy – because he was one of the first in his class to get a drivers license. He then earned his master’s degree in criminal justice at Central Missouri State University. He later worked at Riverbend Treatment Center for 11 years until retirement.

Robert loved to bowl and had a 300 game and an 800 series. He also was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He loved to fish as well, thoroughly enjoying annual fishing trips to Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his stepsister, Karen Bravo (Steve) and her children, Sanya Brown, Kimberly Gardner, and Melissa Bravo; aunt and uncle, Richard and Deborah Weitlich; numerous cousins; and longtime friends, Tony Cox, Jerry Perkins, Randy Cooper, Buddy Merritt, Mark Antle, Dan Reid, Darry Langdon, and Wally Patrick.
