Richard R. Calloway Sr., 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025.
He was born September 25, 1949 in St. Joseph to Earl and Marjorie (Frogge) Calloway. Richard grew up in the North End, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1968.
On August 12, 1967, Richard married Jura Louise Bridger. She survives of the home.
He was a carpet layer with his brother for a few years, then went to work at St. Joseph Power & Light in 1975, retiring in 2011 as a coal handler.
Richard enjoyed gardening and doing autobody work and painting cars in his garage. He especially liked having a cold beer, sitting on his stool in the kitchen, while listening to classic country music.
Family meant the most to him, with the Chiefs being a close second. Richard loved his family, loved spending time with them, and was so proud of them. He leaves a legacy of many great family get-togethers, his homemade barbecue sauce, and his example of a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Miller; brother, Earl “Boot” Calloway; sister-in-law, Charlotte Calloway; brother-in-law, Joe Pflugradt; and his beloved dog, Woody.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jura; children, Janey Calloway and Ricky Calloway (Dana); grandchildren, Kenzie Merling (Alex), Chase Simpson (Kelci), Ravyn Whisenand (Daniel Sweet), Luke Whisenand, Kaia Calloway, and Kaden Calloway; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Waylon, and Macklin; siblings, Sharon Pflugradt, Carl Calloway, and Ross Calloway (Rhonda); numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 13, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Blakely Cemetery, Easton, Missouri, at a later date. The family will gather with friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 12, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
