Former Kansas City Star and Yahoo Sports NFL reporter Terez Paylor passed away unexpectedly Tuesday. He was 37.

Paylor began covering the Chiefs for the Star in 2013 and went to Yahoo Sports five years later.

A Detroit native, Paylor called Kansas City his home for more than 15 years and was beloved by colleagues, the community and Chiefs fans as the go-to source for Chiefs news.

“While we are shocked and saddened by Terez Paylor’s sudden passing,” longtime girlfriend and fiancee Ebony Reed wrote in a statement to Yahoo Sports, “we also celebrate his extraordinary life that touched so many. Terez was an exceptional journalist whose passion for football made him a respect voice. His legacy will leave an enduring impact on sports journalism, the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans.

“More important, Terez was a devoted son, grandson, brother, an adoring fiancee and a wonderful friend to so many. To know him was to love him. He will be dearly missed.”

Paylor was a member of the Pro Football Writers of America, where he held a vote for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Paylor was also an active member of the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists
