St. Joseph police are investigating a shooting that left a St. Joseph man with a gunshot wound to the neck and is tied to an armed robbery in late June.

Police report a sport utility vehicle drove to the Law Enforcement Center in downtown St. Joseph shortly before six o’clock last night. The passenger, a 23-year-old St. Joseph man, had suffered a non-life-threatening wound to the neck. The vehicle had been stolen during an armed robbery on June 25th. The passenger was taken to the hospital. The driver was taken into custody.

Police discovered the shooting took place at 12th and Powell. At least two shots were fired. One struck the neck of the victim. Another struck the vehicle. There was broken glass at the scene.

Police believe they have identified the shooter, who is at large.

The SUV had been stolen on the 25th after men wearing masks robbed the Dollar Tree on North Belt, taking the store deposit. After fleeing the store, the robbers threatened the owner of the SUV and fled in the stolen vehicle.
