Rodney Kendall Loyd, 78, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, went home to his Lord and Savior April 4, 2024, after a brave, strong battle against cancer.
Rodney was born September 3, 1945 to Ernest “Ernie” Loyd and Mildred (Evans) Kottman. He had three siblings, Mary Anne Paul, Mike Loyd, and Denise Loyd.Rodney graduated from Central High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army as a switchboard operator, ranked as SPEC 4. He is a devout Christian and a member of Hope Fellowship Church. His faith in God is what kept him fighting strong.
Rodney married the love of his life, Charlene (Huber) Loyd in 1964. September 4th would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. There was no one he adored more than his wife. To this union they had two children, David and Dana.
Rodney worked for the railroad as a switchman, then worked 29 years after moving his way up to the plant master scheduler at Mead products. Upon the closing of Mead, Rodney found his true calling and became an LPN in his 60’s. He loved this job and took care of one special girl for eight years. In addition to nursing school, Rodney had also studied tax preparation and worked for his wife’s business, Independent Tax Service until his cancer diagnosis in September 2022.
Rodney took modern and ballroom dance at a young age from Cliff and Paul. He loved dancing with his wife at many performances, in formation groups and just for fun. He loved going to car shows, watching t.v. shows about cars,Yellowstone, action and sci-fi movies, traveling, backyard fireworks, tequila and all his fur-babies. His therapy was landscaping his yard. He would spend endless hours tending to it.
Rodney was the life of the party and you could always find him with a Don Julio on the rocks in hand. He was adored by everyone that knew him due to his caring, fun loving nature. He was a second father to many.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Charlene, of the home; son, David (Stacey) Loyd; daughter, Dana (Vance) Plowman; granddaughter Jessica (Sean) Barker, all of St. Joseph; a brother, nieces, nephew, many friends and others he considers family.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 7th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hope Fellowship Church. Services will be Monday, April 8th at 10 a.m at the church.
