Savannah school officials plan to lift the mask mandate for two elementary schools and the middle school Tuesday.

The Savannah School District issued a statement, saying a drop in positive COVID-19 cases and the shorter incubation period for the Omicron variant prompted the decision. The current requirement to wear masks at Amazonia Elementary and John Glenn Elementary Schools as well as the Savannah Middle School will be dropped beginning tomorrow. School officials continue to strongly encourage students and staff to wear masks.

School officials do ask parents to keep students at home if they are sick.

Andrew County health officials report 167 active COVID-19 cases in the county with 90 in the last seven days.

Meanwhile, Mosaic Life Care reports it is treating 62 total COVID-19 patients in its system; 54 in St. Joseph, 7 in Maryville, and 1 in Albany.
