
Michael A. Dykstra, 66, died Thursday, February 3, 2022, at his home in
Lakin, Kansas. He was born December 22, 1955, in Atchison, Kansas, the
son of Aaron & Barbara (More) Dykstra.
Michael grew up in Atchison, Kansas where he attended school and
graduated from Atchison High School in 1974. He then attended Kansas
State University where he graduated in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in
Finance. In 1982, he married Laura Burghart in Dodge City, Kansas and
three children were born to this union: Adrienne, Allison and Chad.
They moved to Lakin, Kansas in the mid 1980’s where Michael has lived
since. Michael later married Cindy Means in Lakin, Kansas on May 17,
2020. Mike worked as the Vice President of Kearny County Bank until his
retirement in December of 2020.
Michael was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, a 4th
degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, Sigma Alpha Epsilon,
and he served on many community boards. Mike loved to spend his time
with his family. He also loved running, exercising, and as an avid
sports fan he loved to watch football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs
and Kansas State University.
Survivors include his wife Cindy Means-Dykstra of the home; three
children Adrienne (Timothy) Neaderhiser of Franktown, Colorado, Allison
Dykstra of Kansas City, Missouri, and Chad Dykstra of Lakin, Kansas;
three stepchildren Shannon (Jon) Irsik, Josh Abeyta, & Amber Hamill
all of Garden City, Kansas; a sister Diane Dykstra of Atchison, Kansas;
two brothers Kevin Dykstra and David Dykstra both of Atchison, Kansas;
and ten Grandchildren. Michael is preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7,
2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, Kansas with Fr. Peter
Tran as Celebrant. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Lakin Memorial Building in Lakin with
Rev. Rita Stockton officiating. A private family interment will take
place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of
flowers the family suggests memorials given to the Kearny County
Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas.
