Beverly Ann Butler, peacefully departed, with her daughter by her side, on Saturday, May 24th, 2025 at Crestview nursing home in Bethany, Missouri.
Beverly Ann (VanHoozer) Butler was born on February 7th, 1932 to Homer and Henrietta (Scott) VanHoozer at their home in Martinsville, MO. As a freshman in high school she started dating Billy Butler. He was 4 years older than her, and their romance continued all through her high school years. She married her high school sweetheart on June 1st, 1951. They were a striking, young couple, full of laughter and love, and shared a married life together for 60 years.
In August 1954, Beverly gave birth to a stillborn baby boy, Ricky Joe. She rarely spoke of this loss, but as her time on earth was drawing closer to an end, she was looking forward to meeting her baby boy for the first time.
Three years later, they were blessed with a daughter, Barbara Colette. Barb would keep both of them on their toes for many, many years and Barb would also blessed them with three grandchildren: Kris, Sherrie and Andrew.
Bill and Beverly owned several general stores, working hard to keep them open for 35 years. They had a store in Martinsville, Hatfield, and Eagleville. After closing the stores, Beverly went on to work as a bank teller at the Citizens Bank in Blythedale and Eagleville for 18 years. She enjoyed working with the public and was very witty with money and finances.
Beverly was a very hard working, and smart woman. Her home was always immaculate inside and out. Not a speck of dust, everything in its place, and she always had a beautiful yard full of birdfeeders and flowers. She also took great pride in her own appearance. She always had her hair fixed up, jewelry on, lovely clothing, and a beautiful smile to match. Keeping up with the times, she taught herself how to operate her cell phone, and her computer. She would order her groceries online, and also enjoyed Facebook.
She loved watching and feeding her birds, talking to friends and family on the phone, and car rides with her daughter. She also dearly enjoyed visits from her little sister Joan. They could talk and laugh for hours, never missing a beat. Surprisingly, she became a huge Chiefs fan, rarely missed watching a game, and would arrange her day accordingly. Beverly and Joan would often text each other back and forth during the football game.
She was an excellent cook, and known for her Christmas candy, pretzel salad, and boiled shrimp every year for Christmas.
She attended many activities for her grandchildren and great grandchildren through the years. This past February, she received the most precious birthday gift of all, a great-great granddaughter was born on her own birthday. She was so very proud of this new role and told everyone of her new title. “I am a great-great grandma!” was heard many, many times by friends, family and even strangers.
She was a member of the Christian church of Eagleville, the Modernette Club, and the Dinner Bell breakfast club.
Beverly will be greatly missed, she touched the hearts of many family and friends. She set a stellar example of how to live life, caring for herself in her own home until this past spring, caring for others, always giving, and taking her own health very seriously.
We are grateful for the care and compassion she received from the staff at Crestview Nursing home and Harrison County Health Department’s Hospice team.
At 93 years of age, her legacy will continue as she is survived by her daughter, Barb (Dave) Callaway of Bethany, MO; her grandchildren, Kris Hamilton of Blythedale MO, Sherrie (Cobey) Hendren of Scottsdale, AZ, and Andrew (Shila) Callaway of Bethany, MO; her great grandchildren, Brandon (Emma), Dustin, and Logan Hamilton, Coltyn, and Blake Hendren, Ella, Lola, Emmy, and Willa Callaway; her great great grandchild, Eleanor; her sister, Joan (John) Roberson; her sister-in-law, June Ann (Joe) Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her faithful and loving husband, Billy Butler; her infant son, Ricky Joe Butler; her brothers, Richard and Nelson VanHoozer; and her parents, Homer and Henrietta VanHoozer.
We will celebrate her life on earth and passage into His Kingdom with a visitation on Wednesday, May 28th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home, 1107 S. 25th St. Bethany, MO. A graveside service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 29th, 2025 at Kidwell Cemetery in Martinsville, MO. Memorials and contributions may be made to Harrison County Senior Center or Kidwell Cemetery.
