Western District Buchanan County Commissioner Ron Hook actually picked up a couple of votes in a recount from Election Day, winning re-election in a tight race over challenger Everett Goddard, Jr.
The recount conducted by the Buchanan County Clerk’s office, overseen by the two candidates and nonpartisan observers, found Hook, a Democrat, received 7,869 votes to 7,844 for Goddard, a Republican. That is a 25-vote difference.
At the end of election night, Hook had won re-election by 23 votes.
The clerk’s office ran the ballots through the vote-counting machines a second time during the recount.
