James “Jim” Staples, 77, Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025.
He was born April 25, 1947 in St. Joseph to Everett And Sybil (Wolfing) Staples. He grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from Central High School, then serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
After earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from Missouri Western State College, Jim earned his CPA accreditation and worked in financial management positions with several companies for many years.
He married Deanna Ball on August 31, 2003. They later divorced but remained friends.
In his younger years, Jim loved to play pool and was active in league play. Later he took up bowling and was a league member at Belt Bowl. He loved spending time with his sons, sharing his knowledge of both pool and bowling as well as playing other sports with them. He later spent as much time as he could with his grandchildren.
He was known for being super handy around the house. Jim could fix anything and always made sure it was done right.
After experiencing serious health issues, Jim was grateful to the Mayo Clinic for a double lung transplant done at their medical center, which gave him more years to enjoy his family. He also found solace as a member of Resurrection Church in Leawood, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Stacy Newey.
Survivors include his sons, Scott Staples and Brad Staples (Kendal); grandchildren, Kayla Simmons (Jordan), Clayton Staples, and Reed Staples; great-grandchildren, Jade, Jordan Jr. and Jacelyn Simmons; former wife, Dee Staples; and his beloved dog, Max.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 21, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
