The St. Joseph Mustangs got down 6-2 in the seventh inning, rallied, but still came up short in a 6-5 loss to the Carroll Merchants at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph Thursday.
Carroll (7-9) had beaten the Mustangs 9-6 on Wednesday night in Carroll, Iowa as well.
St. Joseph scored three runs in the eighth inning to make it a one-run game, but then stranded a runner at first to end the game in the ninth.
The Mustangs had a tough night in the field Thursday, committing five total errors. The Merchants also outhit the Mustangs 12-8.
Jackson Glueck went 2-for-4 at the plate. Kyle Hepburn hit a single-shot home run in the second.
Starting pitcher Roy Holcomb took the loss for St. Joseph. He tossed five innings, surrendering eight hits and three earned runs. He walked four and struck out one. He also hit a batter.
St. Joseph (12-2) stays home to face the Nevada Griffons on Friday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
