Vivian Lorraine Neibling 1929 - 2020

Vivian Lorraine (Rieger) Neibling, 91, formerly of Highland, KS passed away September 22, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS.

Lorraine was born August 2, 1929 near Fairview, KS.  She was the oldest of 4 daughters born to Fred and Audrey (Whitney) Rieger of Fairview, KS.  She graduated from Fairview high school in 1947.  Lorraine graduated from Highland Junior College with a teaching certificate, and taught for three years in a one room school house in Hamlin, KS.

Lorraine was a member of the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church and was active in the women’s council, and as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent.  Lorraine enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, embroidery, and quilting.  She worked as the evening librarian at Highland Community College from 1981 to 1991.  In 1990 Floyd and Lorraine were honored with the Kansas Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemaker Award.

Lorraine married Floyd Neibling on August 27, 1950, at the Evangelical Reformed Church at Fairview. They made their home and raised their family on their farm northwest of Highland until they moved to Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS. in 2010. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage prior to Floyd passing away on October 28, 2011.Survived by her children, W. Howard (Marsha) Neibling of Kimberly, ID, Marjorie (Wally) Martin of Cave Creek, AZ, Beverly (Mike) McGee of Manhattan, KS, and Robert (Christine) Neibling of Augusta, KS; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Nancy (Bill) Lambertson and Lois Ricketts, brothers- and sister-in-law Harvey Neibling, and Jerry and Carol Neibling of Highland, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, sister Janice, son-in-law John “Jack” Hinton, and Granddaughter Meghan McGee.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.

A Celebration of Lorraine’s life is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Highland United Methodist-Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Kevin Rea officiating, assisted by Shane Spangler.  Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
