Dorothy Jean Smith, 96, St. Joseph, died Sunday, August 10, 2025 at a local health care facility.
Mrs. Smith was born May 2, 1929 in Lathrop, MO, the daughter of Herbert and Roxanna Rogers. She married Glen H. Smith on February 4, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents and a great grandson Wyatt Steidel. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Lathrop High School in 1947 and Missouri University, Columbia Missouri in 1951.
She and her family moved to St. Joseph in 1958 and she taught 5th grade at Edison and was the librarian at Robidoux Middle School in St. Joseph, MO until her retirement in 1989.
She was a member of Faith United Church. She was a member of PEO. Her other hobbies and interests included crocheting and chip carving.
Survivors: sister Beverly Crossman, Vancouver Washington; sons, Warren G. Smith (Jennifer) and Richard H. Smith (Sharon), both of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Chad W. Smith (Angela), Elgin Smith, Lindsey Smith, Cristin Rogers (Sean), Rachel Marmaud (Joseph), Daniel Steidel (Laseana), Amanda Yoka (Daniel); great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Children’s Mercy Hospital.
