Helen Marie Best McDonald, born September 7, 1954, passed away on June 3, 2026.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Edward Best, and her beloved husband, Leonard “Butch” McDonald Jr.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Dewayne) Dodson, Cory McDonald, and Leonard “Mitch” McDonald III (Teresa); her grandchildren, Kaylie, Melissa, Brian, Avery, Danica, Kaitlyn, Wyatt, Hunter, and Evelyn and nephew, Jimmy Mcdonald. She is also remembered with love by her special friend, Jerry Halda, who brought companionship and comfort to her life after the passing of her husband.
Helen’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and was happiest when she was involved in their lives. She substitute taught and was often a familiar, supportive face at games, school events, activities, and field trips. If her grandchildren were involved, Helen wanted to be there, cheering them on and showing her support.
She also enjoyed shopping, eating out, and spending time playing paint-by-number on her phone. Helen had a playful spirit and a special way of making her grandchildren feel loved. One of her sweet sayings was that she was “melting,” and the only cure was hugs from her grandchildren.
Helen will be remembered for the love she gave, the memories she created, and the way she showed up for the people who mattered most to her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Roberson Funeral Home, King City, MO. Burial will follow in Memorial Park, St. Joseph, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Helen McDonald Memorial Fund in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O.
