Ronald James Mynock, 86, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away February 22, 2026, at Atchison Senior Village with his wife at his bedside.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM, March 3, 2026, at Atchison Senior Village in Atchison, KS, with Pastor Joseph Hansen officiating the service. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com
Ronald was born September 24, 1939, in Long Beach California, the son of Sergius and Ada (Moore) Mynock. His father was an Alaskan Native American. He was the youngest of 4 children. The family was very aware of the war at that time, especially on the West coast. They even donated Ronald’s tricycle to “the war effort”. He went to several different schools. He liked to tell people that he was on a bowling team with Charles Shultz, the creator of Peanuts comic strip. As a young man of 18 he became a believer in Jesus Christ. This formed his moral character that led to many important decisions throughout his life. He graduated from Sonoma State University with a degree in English Literature. He spent 20 years afterward working for the Santa Rosa City schools as the head of the Language Arts division. His “boss” was also his good friend and fellow Christian. Ron made sure that the children read only literature that was “clean”. He loved his job and rarely took any time off.
At 70 years old and retired, he started investigating dating sites on the web. One portrait caught his attention—Julia Hansen who lived in South Carolina. He insisted on carrying on long correspondence until he finally flew out to South Carolina to meet her face to face. They were married the next day—March 31, 2011. They were both in their 70s. From the first day they began reading the Bible together. They read the whole Bible aloud 14 times.
Ron was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Greenville SC until the couple moved to Atchison. There they joined the Carol Baptist Church. Ron would say that he was deeply in love with Julia and spent 24/7 happily enjoying each other.
They began painting while in their 80s. Ron had a sizable library which he was always proud of.
More importantly, he was in love with his savior, Jesus Christ. He especially loved certain people he met in the Bible—Daniel, Joseph, and Paul. Ephesians 6 was a favorite Scripture passage where it describes the armor of the believer. Now he can enjoy his heroes face to face in heaven. He prayed faithfully for his adopted family. They all loved him. He was a good and godly man. We will all miss him here on earth. But we are happy he can spend forever trusting Jesus who said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes unto the father, but by me.”
He is survived by his wife, stepson, Joseph (Denita) Hansen, stepson, Kyle (Carrie) Hansen, step-daughter Karis Hansen-Lane, nine step-grandchildren, and many step-great-grandchildren.
