James "Eddie" Edward Shelton, 66, of St Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. He was born March 26, 1959 in Atchison, KS, son of Doris and James Monroe Shelton. He lived much of his life in the DeKalb, MO area and attended DeKalb High School. On February 14, 1981, he married JoAnna Young. Eddie began his work in farming at a young age and later began his work in the Steel Industry having worked for Sheffield Steel, Atchison Casting and retired from Bradken Steel. He enjoyed farming, especially, his years tobacco farming, was a toy collector and enjoyed pulling trucks and derby cars. Eddie always had a story to tell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, JoAnna Shelton, son, Michael Edward Shelton and daughter, Julie Marie Shelton. Survivors include son, Eric (Chelsee) Shelton of Pearland, TX, sisters, Lois Ohlensehlen of St Joseph, and Laura (Scott) Shelton of Lancaster, PA, half sister, Mary Guethle of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Connor, Chloe, Levi, Audree and Abel Shelton and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Graveside Services and Interment will follow at 2:30 Wednesday at Westlawn Cemetery, DeKalb, MO. Memorials are requested to the Eddie Shelton Memorial Fund, c/o Rupp Funeral Home.
