College instructor Gena Ross emerges from a crowded Democratic field to challenge the re-election of Congressman Sam Graves in November.

Ross won nearly 33-percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary, edging Ramona Farris, who suspended her campaign. Unofficial results show Ross with 14-Thousand, 483 votes. Farris finished second with 11-thousand, 867 votes.

In a closely watched Kansas Congressional race, incumbent Republican Steve Watkins has lost a Republican primary challenge to Kansas Treasurer Jake LaTurner. LaTurner won more than 46-Thousand votes to not quite 32-Thousand for Watkins, a freshman Congressman faces voter fraud charges that he dismisses as bogus. LaTurner will face Democrat Michelle De La Isla, the mayor of Topeka, in the November General Election.
