St. Joseph police, acting on a tip, made 53 vehicle stops, issuing 19 citations and 25 warnings, interrupting a purported “side show” event on Saturday.

The St. Joseph Police Department reports it received information about a planned “side show” and the Traffic Unit conducted a targeted enforcement operation. “Side show” events usually feature street racing and vehicle stunts. The department considers them hazardous to public safety, including participants.

According to the department, officers issued eight tickets for improper or expired license plates, three tickets for driving while suspended or revoked, and two tickets for driving without insurance.

“We take illegal street activity seriously,” St. Joseph Police Chief, Paul Luster, said in a written statement issued by the department. “Our priority is to ensure that all drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are safe on our roadways. Reckless driving and unlicensed operation of vehicles will not be tolerated in our community. We’re committed to proactive enforcement to prevent tragedy before it strikes.”

The St. Joseph Police Department encourages residents to report suspicious or dangerous driving behavior.
