James Ray Leggans, 60, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 6th, 2025.
James grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri; graduating from Benton High School. He married Cheryl (Harbison) on July 7th, 2001 at Krug Park, surrounded by family.
James worked as a correction officer for the Missouri State Prison in St. Joseph, Missouri for 19 years; later James worked for Carriage Square Rehab and Healthcare Center, as a reception worker before retiring due to health reasons.
James was a honored member of the following local organizations: Maxwell Heights Church, the Brotherhood Lodge of St. Joseph, Savannah Chapter as Worthy Patron, Dual Sunlight Chapter of the Eastern Star, and the Masonic High 12 Commandry serving as pallbearer for funeral services.
Survivors include: wife, Cheryl, of the home. Siblings: Juanita Davidson and Steve Leggans. Daughters: Christy Leggans, Krystal Leggans, Kirstin Leggans, Shyann Leggans, Marissa Adamczyk, and Clarissia Adamczyk. And his son, Joshua Leggans. 8 Grandchildren; Local grandchildren include: Betty Faye, Draco, Lucifer, and Deon (who is on the way). Additionally he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding James in death were his parents, Margaret (Ellsworth) and Everett Tarwater.
James has been cremated under the care of Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Maxwell Heights Church located at 4501 Maxwell Road - St. Joseph, Mo. 64505 on Thursday June 19th, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
