Mary Lynn Nuzum 1976 - 2023

Mary Lynn Nuzum, 47, of Highland, Kansas, died peacefully on July 21, 2023, surrounded by her family, at the University of Kansas Medical Center after battling a long illness. 

Mary was born June 16, 1976, in Hiawatha, Kansas. She was the youngest of four children born to Gary and Betty Joe Weis. After the death of her mother at a young age, her father remarried Laverte (Davis) Weis in which she gained two additional brothers. She grew up and spent most of her life in Highland, Kansas.

She was a 1994 graduate of Highland High School. She went on and earned her Associates of Business from Highland Community College. She worked in Hiawatha, Kansas for the Brown County District Court as a clerk and as a juvenile intake officer for years until she was unable to work due to her illness. 

She married Mike Nuzum March 29, 2002. They resided in Hiawatha, Kansas for 16 years before returning to Highland. He was her life partner of 30 years at the time of her death. He survives at home. They were blessed with one daughter, Maggie Nuzum. 

Mary loved to play Bingo, go fishing, sit on her porch, and spend quality time with her family. Despite her health challenges she always had a smile and loved to laugh. She was devoted to her family and loved ones. 

She was preceeded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, and a niece. 

She is survived by her husband, Mike Nuzum of the home, daughter Maggie Nuzum (Ryan Kleyn) of Saint. Charles, MO. Other survivors include her stepmother Laverte Weis of Highland, four brothers Kevin (Cathy) Weis of White Cloud, KS, Ed Weis Highland, KS, Brian (Lisa) Davis of Cedar Rapids, IA, John (Kaitlin) Weis of Highland, KS, and one sister Melody Fields of Highland, KS, one sister-in-law Margo Nuzum of Kansas City, MO, Curt (Sara) Nuzum of Houston, TX, many nieces, nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. 

Mary will be greatly missed. 

Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland & Hiawatha to sign register book August 4. Graveside services & inurnment is planned for August 5, at 10 a.m., at Mt Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.  Pastor Jerry Petering will officiate.
