An Independence woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her part in a 2024 St. Joseph murder.

Twenty-four-year-old Melanie Myers has pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in the November 10th death of Dustin Allen Graham last year. Myers initially faced a second-degree murder charge.

Buchanan County Circuit Judge Daniel Kellogg sentenced Myers to 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Myers lured Graham to a meeting in the 19-Hundred block of Jules Street in an attempted robbery. Co-defendant, Brian Helm, blocked Graham’s vehicle with his pickup, according to prosecutors, who accuse Helm of shooting Graham. Graham attempted to escape, but could only drive a block. Graham was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

Helm faces numerous charges, including second-degree murder.

He is scheduled for a trial later this month.
