Thomas “Tom” Henry Hansen 1935 - 2024

Thomas “Tom” Henry Hansen, 88, of Hiawatha, Kansas; formerly of Hinton, Iowa, passed away at Anew Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Hiawatha on July 27, 2024. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the church.  Tom was born on October 20, 1935 to Lorenze Martin and Fannie (Clausen) Hansen in Anthon, Iowa.  He was the youngest of 10 children born to this union.  

Tom attended Country School until the 8th grade when he had to stay home and farm.  Tom served his country in the Army for three years.  Upon his honorable discharge from the Army and returning home from Japan, he married Sylvia Jebsen on June 1, 1958 in Sioux City, Iowa. Tom and Sylvia were blessed with two children, Virginia and Monte. They farmed in the Hinton area for many years.  

Tom also worked for Foulk Bros Plumbing for 23 years installing sprinkler systems before his retirement.  He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hinton, Iowa having served on Church Boards as well as being on the Dart Ball Team.  Tom served on the Farm Bureau Board of Plymouth County for eight years.  He was a longtime Green Bay Packer fan and also loved to fish, dance the polka with Sylvia, golf, play cards (especially Euchre and Pitch) and spend time with family and friends. Tom moved to Hiawatha, KS, in 2018 to be close to his daughter. He loved seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Tom is survived by his daughter, Virginia (Bob) Freese of Hiawatha, Kansas; son, Monte (Madonna) Hansen of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren: Katie (Matthew) Glasnapp, Spencer (Stephanie) Hansen, Abby (Jeff) Tanking, and Breann Hansen (Jackson Lambert); six great-grandchildren: Mark, Kane and Lucy Tanking, Ella and Zoey Glasnapp, and Nashtyn Hansen; along with several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia; parents, Lorenze and Fannie Hansen; brothers: Peter and John Hansen; sisters: Margaret Callamour, Emma Schmidt, Marie Schmidt, Theressia Klein, Rose Lillie, Dorathy Nelson, and Darlene Jansen; and several nieces and nephews.
