A young man, armed with a handgun, gave up to St. Joseph police without incident after speaking with a crisis negotiator for about an hour.
St. Joseph police say the initial call came shortly after seven o’clock Monday night and officers located the man near the Remington Nature Center on the bank of the Missouri River about an hour later. One shot had been fired, but no one was hurt.
The negotiator began speaking with the man shortly after he was located. The man surrendered to authorities and was placed in custody at 9:15 Monday night.
St. Joseph police say they were aided in the incident by Buchanan County Sheriff’s deputies, Buchanan County emergency personnel, St. Joseph firefighters, and Missouri State Highway Department troopers.
