Daniel Lee Hayes, 80, of Smithville, MO passed away November 15, 2024.
He was born on March 4, 1944, to Norma Hazen in Stockton, KS. At the age of 4, Dan was adopted by his step-dad Ward Hayes. Dan grew up on a farm and attended grade school and graduated from Palco High School in Palco, KS. After completion of high school, Dan attended trade school to become a mechanic.
Dan was in the U.S. Army in 1964 after trade school till he was discharged in 1967.
Dan married Marcia Hayes on November 12, 1967, in Ogallah, KS. They were married for 57 years. They raised 4 children and Dan worked as a mechanic until he retired.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Ogallah, KS and Smithville Chirstian Church in Smithville, MO.
Dan also enjoyed doing woodwork and made several “neat seats” for the grandkids and several other children. He also made cradles for the granddaughters and many other wooden projects, building everything with much love.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; son Glen Hayes, brother Steve Hayes and grandson Xavier Hayes.
He is survived by his wife Marcia Hayes of the home; children Karen (Phil) Vice of Smithville, MO, Anita Cook of Smithville, MO, Bobby (Crystal) Hayes of Wamego, KS; daughter-in-law Makenzie Hayes of Liberty, MO; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Kathy (Jerry) Francisco of Birchwood, TN; brothers Doug (Tadhi) Hayes of Amarillo, TX, Greg (Brynda) Hayes of Ellsworth, KS and Mark (Debbie) Hayes of Eureka, KS; sister-in-law Peggy Hayes of Wichita, KS; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Service with Military Honors will be at 5:00 p.m. with Visitation following the service until 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 22nd at Smithville Christian Church in Smithville, MO.
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23rd at Ogallah Cemetery, Ogallah, KS.
