Cardinals drop third straight getting shutout by Mets 3-0

The St. Louis Cardinals dropped a third straight game, managing just three total hits in a shutout 3-0 loss to the New York Mets on the road Saturday afternoon at Citi Field. 

Mets starter Kodai Senga walked two batters and gave up a double to Thomas Saggese in the second inning and another in the fifth, as well as a single to Brendan Donovan in the sixth inning before being pulled from the game for the bullpen.

New York opened their scoring in the second inning.  Luisangel Acuña doubled to open the inning and later scored on a single by Juan Soto.  Soto scored the second run of the game on a double by Pete Alonso.  The Mets added their final run in the eighth, a solo home run from Alonso. 

Matthew Liberatore took the loss for the Cardinals, falling to 1-2 on the season, pitching 6.2 innings and giving up two runs on six hits, striking out six batters and walking one.  Saggese led the way hitting going 2-4 with his two doubles.  

St. Louis and New York wrap up their series tomorrow.  Sonny Gray takes the mound for the Cardinals against Clay Holmes for the Mets.  First pitch is at 12:40, pregame will be joined at 12:30 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).
