Thomas M. Doohen, 75, died April 11, 2026 at a nursing home in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Tom was born in Vermillion, South Dakota, to Bernard and Marjorie (Heck) Doohen on May 20, 1950. He grew up on the family farm located north of Vermillion. He attended Prairie Center Country school. The family later moved to Wakonda, South Dakota, where Tom helped out on his dad's farm for many years.
After the family farm was sold, he moved to Vermillion, where he married Janice Bremer in 1990. During this time, Tom worked at various jobs, including the University of South Dakota, and St. Agnes School. In 2004 he moved to St. Joseph, MO, where he worked at Fed Ex for five years.
Tom enjoyed traveling, working out, bicycling and walking and hiking in the outdoors. In addition, Tom enjoyed watching the History and Discovery Channels and especially enjoyed watching “Antiques Roadshow.” Tom liked researching his family genealogy with his sister. Tom also enjoyed going to many different museums and libraries and loved dinosaurs!
He is survived by James (Patricia) Doohen, Jerry (Sheila) Doohen and Ann (David) King and four nieces and a nephew.
Arrangements are pending with burial in South Dakota at a later date where he lived most of his life.
