Larry Richard Johnson 1940 - 2023

Larry Richard Johnson, fondly called Richard by his brothers and sisters, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the age of 83, on October 10, 2023.

He is the second son of the late Charles and Lillian Johnson born on January 28, 1940, in St. Joseph, MO. A Benton High School graduate, who never missed school, Larry sought a degree in Business Administration at Missouri Western State University and made the Dean’s Honor Roll. After 32 years of service in aviation, Larry retired from TWA and American Airlines. He together with his wife Lousie owned and operated Stinkie Fingers Bait Shop. A veteran of the United States Army, Larry served our country during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

A true outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman, a devoted bird-feeding fool, a fervent mushroom hunter, and a reborn conservationist.  An arborist at heart, Larry planted way over 1,000 trees in his lifetime. He headed up “Stream Team” in a community effort to keep streamlets and creeks clean and litter-free.

His wife, Louise Martina Johnson, his parents, and brothers, Jesse, Howard, and Charles "Dutch" Johnson preceded Larry in death.

Survivors include; daughters, Carla (Gary) Keith, St. Joseph, MO, Debra Johnson (Sergei Dolgov) St. Petersburg, Russia, and sons, Rich (Tracy) Johnson, and Mike Johnson (Nancy Hargrave) both of St. Joseph, MO, 15 grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren, brothers, Roy Johnson, St. Joseph, MO., and Kenneth Johnson, Crawley, TX, sisters, Cheryl McNabb, Napa, ID, Paula Dorris, Cascade, ID, Anita Hester, Amado, AZ, Patricia Kamler, St. Joseph, Marilyn Johnson, Crawley, TX, Lenora Johnson, St. Joseph, MO, and multiple nieces and nephews.

The Family will receive friends on Friday, October 13, 2023; visitation from 1:00 pm followed by farewell memorial services with military honors at 2:00 pm. Inurnment-Bethel Cemetery, DeKalb, MO.
