This year's Graves-Chapple Extension and Education Center Field Day in Fairfax will discuss and answer questions on safety and health topics impacting the ag community.
The event on August 25th will host several experts who will be hands on with community members, to answer questions, demonstrate concepts, and provide resources, and also do some giveaways. Topics being discussed include Alpha-Gal Syndrome, CPR, farm stress, heart disease/heart health, Heroes to Hives beekeeping program for military veterans, high blood pressure, mental health, tetanus, tick identification and biology, and the Stop the Bleed program.
Several resources will be represented at the expo. The University of Missouri, University of Missouri Extension, Atchison County Health Department, Community Hospital Fairfax, and NKC Health of Kansas City will be represented.
“Staying safe and healthy in agriculture is so important—not only to do the work we need to do, but to keep doing it,” MU Extension field specialist in livestock in Atchison County Amie Schleicher says in a news release. Schleicher is working to organize the expo. “My goal with the expo is to provide an opportunity—in conjunction with another popular local ag event, the Graves-Chapple field day—for people to interact with experts on ways to stay safe and healthy. Some topics are familiar ones, while others like Stop the Bleed and Heroes to Hives might be new to folks. The Alpha-Gal Syndrome topic is a hot one right now, and I’m glad we’ll be able to have experts on ticks as well as the human health aspect at the expo.”
The expo will be held during the Graves-Chapple Extension and Education Center’s annual field day on Tuesday, August 25th, running from 7:30am to 1:00pm. The Graves-Chapple Extension and Education Center is located at 29955 Outer Road in Fairfax.
