KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating teenagers playing with a gun that led to a shooting.

Just before noon Monday, police were dispatched to a home in the 10600 block of College Avenue in Kansas to investigate a reported shooting in which the victim was a juvenile, according to KCPD&nbsp;Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

At the home, police found a teenager suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. EMS transported the teen to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the initial investigation into the incident revealed teenagers were playing with a gun at that location when it reportedly "accidentally" went off, striking one of the teens.

A&nbsp; Kawasaki motorcycle was southbound on Interstate 435 at Bannister Road at a very high rate of speed, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

The driver lost control of the motorcycle when the Kawasaki struck the right rear corner of a Ford Edge. The Kawasaki driver was ejected from the motorcycle.&nbsp; He struck the guard rail on the west side of the highway, just prior to Bannister Road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to DiMartino.&nbsp; As the Kawasaki motorcycle was coming to rest on the highway, a Toyota Sienna struck the Kawasaki. The driver of the Ford Edge was not injured. The driver and passenger in the Toyota Sienna had minor injuries and refused EMS. All southbound lanes were closed for approximately three hours.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

As he defended his use of the title, Ashcroft last week seemingly questioned the need for professional licensing, opening a new line of attack from his rivals

The first words of Jay Ashcroft’s opening message for&nbsp;<a href="https://ashcroftformissouri.com/" target="_blank">visitors to his gubernatorial campaign website</a>&nbsp;jump out in bold: “I am an engineer.”

Ashcroft earned a law degree from St. Louis University and bachelor and master’s degrees in engineering management from Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The Missouri secretary of state is licensed as an attorney and last year&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2023/10/19/jay-ashcroft-joins-legal-team-defending-his-summary-of-missouri-abortion-amendment/">officially joined the legal team</a>&nbsp;defending his ballot language for a reproductive rights initiative to restore legal abortion in Missouri. He has never been licensed as a professional engineer.

It’s his training in the engineering field, however, that he’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/AshcroftForMO" target="_blank">selling hard in his campaign</a>.

But Ashcroft’s use of the title, and whether he is using it honestly, or even perhaps illegally, has become a flash point for the campaign just weeks before the Aug. 6 primary. A&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/politics/complaint-alleges-ashcroft-committed-fraud-and-dishonesty-in-campaign-ad-because-he-is-not-licensed-as-an-engineer/63-0f58be44-f4aa-48cb-a316-6fee6ed46a64" target="_blank">complaint to the state licensing board</a>&nbsp;for engineers, from a supporter of one of his opponents, objects to his use of the term and cites a state law limiting use of the word.

It is also the newest attack line being used to chew away at Ashcroft’s&nbsp;<a href="https://mcusercontent.com/db358242620bb5bfd24ec7d05/files/37f31a62-c00a-f6ff-a3e3-0c7d797b3b9a/MO_Statewide_Toplines_Release.pdf" target="_blank">once-impressive polling lead</a>&nbsp;in the eight-way Republican primary for governor.&nbsp;

“It’s silly politics,” Ashcroft said in an interview with The Independent.

But with three weeks to go before the primary, Ashcroft is explaining why he can call himself an engineer, not his policy plans. At least 11 times during the Republican gubernatorial debate last week with two of his rivals, Ashcroft used the title engineer to describe himself and the quality of his plans for Missouri.&nbsp;

And Ashcroft calls his policy plan a “Red Print,” wordplay that substitutes the shorthand for the Republican Party in the word “blueprint” with its inclusion of the shorthand reference to the Democratic Party.

“I am a typical engineer,” Ashcroft said during the debate. “I’m not your typical politician. I don’t want to talk to people, I want to get stuff done. I want to act in the best interest of the people. I don’t want to just talk about it when I’m running for election. I want to do it when it matters and move conservative policy forward.”

The complaint, filed June 27 and first reported by KSDK-TV in St. Louis, was by a Rolla engineer who contributed $520 in March to Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe’s campaign. The engineer did not respond to telephone messages and emails to discuss the complaint.

Mike Hafner, an adviser to Kehoe’s campaign, said the campaign did not contact the engineer or ask for the complaint to be filed.

After graduating from Missouri S&amp;T, Ashcroft worked for four years at Systems &amp; Electronics Inc., now Leonardo DRS, and was enrolled with the licensing board as an engineering intern at that time.

Later, he taught mechanical engineering and engineering technology at St. Louis Community College.&nbsp;

“I am not a licensed, professional engineer,” Ashcroft said, but said he has both the resume and legal right to use the term.

Under revisions to the&nbsp;<a href="https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=327.181&amp;bid=17499&amp;hl=" target="_blank">licensing law</a>&nbsp;made in 2007, no one without a license can call themselves an engineer while offering to design “buildings, structures, products, machines, processes, and systems that can affect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.”&nbsp;

But the licensing board will not discipline someone referring to themself as an engineer as long as that is “clearly not indicating or implying that such person is holding himself or herself out as being a professional engineer.”

The undergraduate engineering management program Ashcroft completed at Missouri S&amp;T is accredited by the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.abet.org/" target="_blank">Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology</a>.&nbsp;

“If a person graduates from a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, then yes, this person typically uses the title of engineer,” said Amanda Grace Taylor, director of communications for the board.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers issued a&nbsp;<a href="https://ieeeusa.org/assets/public-policy/positions/workforce/EngineerTitle1122.pdf" target="_blank">position paper on the question of titles</a>&nbsp;in 2022. Titles like professional engineer should be protected and used only by licensed individuals, the paper states.

But the title engineer has a broader meaning as well, which the public understands to be someone ”who has acquired special knowledge and ability” in the engineering field. Someone who graduated from a board-accredited program, the paper states, “should not be prohibited from using the title ‘Engineer.’”

Regardless of whether he is licensed or not, Ashcroft said his use of the title for his campaign is legal.&nbsp;

“if you actually look at the statute,” he said, “the statute specifically says that I made the requirements.”

As Ashcroft became more strident in defending his use of the title “engineer,” during the&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2024/07/12/republican-candidates-trade-barbs-in-missouri-gubernatorial-primary-debate/">debate last week</a>, he aimed his response in a new direction, questioning the need for the state licensing board that received a complaint he is using the title illegally.

Ashcroft suggested that all professional licensing was government overreach when asked “are you an engineer” by the debate moderator.

He listed his education and employment, then went further:

“Why in the world are Republicans asking whether or not the government has to give us permission to go out and work legally?” Ashcroft said. “I’m an engineer, but it’s none of the government’s business. We need to get rid of this red tape. We need to allow people to live their lives the way they see fit, instead of kowtowing to faceless bureaucrats.”

The statement drew a&nbsp;<a href="https://democraticgovernors.org/updates/after-he-was-exposed-for-lying-about-being-an-engineer-jay-ashcroft-calls-for-eliminating-engineer-licenses/" target="_blank">quick rebuke</a>&nbsp;from the Democratic Governors Association, which called it “a completely dangerous suggestion that could potentially create countless unsafe hazards.”

Hafner, the adviser to Kehoe, also said Ashcroft’s statement is a dangerous idea. Kehoe, who is leading the latest polls, did not attend the debate at Parkway West High School.

“As a fake engineer I’m sure Jay Ashcroft would like to use crayons and an etch-a-sketch to design our roads, bridges and buildings, but we believe there should be some level of oversight when it comes to keeping Missourians safe,” Hafner said.

Missouri has&nbsp;<a href="https://cdm16795.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/molaws/id/28778/rec/72" target="_blank">regulated the engineering profession</a>&nbsp;since 1941 and the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects is one of 39 licensing boards housed in the&nbsp;<a href="https://pr.mo.gov/boards.asp" target="_blank">Division of Professional Registration</a>.&nbsp;

The boards examine the skills of professionals from accountants and barbers to tattoo artists and veterinarians. Each has the ability to discipline licensed professionals and prosecute people who offer services without a license.

Professional licensing is essential to protecting the safety and health of Missourians, said state Rep. Jeff Coleman, a Republican from Grain Valley who chairs the House Professional Registration and Licensing Committee. Coleman has not endorsed any candidate in the GOP primary for governor.

There may be some unnecessary regulations and lawmakers watch for that, Coleman said.

“We have to have licensing in order to make sure that the people that are dealing with our folks, regardless of whether it’s engineering or medical or financial, that you have to have a license to prove that you are qualified to be able to do those things, to make sure that you are not hurting those citizens,” said Coleman, who is a licensed financial adviser. “That’s what the licensing process is all about, to make sure that you have the knowledge and the ability to take care of who you’re trying to help.”

One of Missouri’s most deadly disasters was an engineering failure, Coleman said, recalling the 1981 collapse of two skywalks at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City that killed 114 people and injured scores of others.&nbsp;

Then-Attorney General John Ashcroft, Jay Ashcroft’s father and later U.S. attorney general during the George W. Bush administration,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1984/02/04/us/engineers-negligence-charged-in-kansas-city-hotel-disaster.html" target="_blank">accused the engineers of gross negligence</a>&nbsp;in a license action in 1984 as the elder Ashcroft was running for governor.

“That was an engineering problem, and we can’t have those types of issues happening because you didn’t get your license and can’t prove to us that you know what you’re doing,” Coleman said.

In a statement to The Independent on Friday, Ashcroft’s campaign said he didn’t propose abolishing professional licensing.

“The regulatory regime in Missouri stifles economic growth and as governor, Jay will take a close look at all regulatory and bureaucratic policies and consider ways of modernizing them to grow our economy,” said Jason Roe, a consultant working for Ashcroft’s campaign.

Mo. governor hopeful Ashcroft knocked off balance by complaint about use of ‘engineer’

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Just before 5a.m. Monday, police in Wichita reported they located a 2-year-old boy, the subject of an Amber Alert, who was now safe and the boy's father 25-year-old <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=749526">Richard Ramones was custody. </a>

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation then canceled the Amber Alert.&nbsp;Some members of the public who received the Amber Alert message wondered why the alert was not sent earlier.&nbsp;

&nbsp;According to the KBI, at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, the boy was physically taken from his mother by Ramones, who assaulted the mother. She was holding boy at the time of the assault and the father fell into furniture with the child, possibly causing injury to him.&nbsp;The child was believed to be injured and in imminent danger.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation explained the delay. "Wichita Police contacted KBI at 3 a.m. Monday related to this incident.  </figure>SEDGWICK COUNTY —Just before 5a.m. Monday, police in Wichita reported they located a 2-year-old boy, the subject of an Amber Alert, who was now safe and the boy's father 25-year-old <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=749526">Richard Ramones was custody. </a>The Kansas Bureau of Investigation then canceled the Amber Alert.&nbsp;Some members of the public who received the Amber Alert message wondered why the alert was not sent earlier.&nbsp;&nbsp;According to the KBI, at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, the boy was physically taken from his mother by Ramones, who assaulted the mother. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Ford Econoline van driven by Derrick&nbsp;Easter, 42, Madison, North Carolina, was&nbsp; fleeing from Law Enforcement at the intersection of 11th and Meridian.

The driver lost control of the van and it rolled. EMS transported Easter and a passenger Catherine Denise Henry, 52,&nbsp;Owasso, Oklahoma, to St. Francis Medical Center. They were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.&nbsp; The KHP did not report what prompted the chase.

2 hospitalized after crash during police chase

KANSAS CITY —One adult and four children were injured in an accident just after 5p.m. Monday in Kansas City.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Suburban was southbound on Blue Ridge Boulevard at a high rate of speed., according to KCPD&nbsp;Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

The Chevrolet struck a Honda Ridgeline that was stopped for the red traffic control signal to make a left turn onto eastbound Interstate 470 from Blue Ridge. 

After striking the Honda, the Chevrolet continued southbound, traveling up over the concrete median, striking two traffic control signals before coming to rest. 

The driver of the Honda was uninjured in the collision.

EMS transported the driver of the Chevrolet to a local hospital with critical injuries. A juvenile male who was sitting in an unrestrained car seat inside the Chevrolet was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. 

The three other juvenile passengers of the Chevrolet were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet and all of the juvenile passengers were reported in stable condition Monday evening, according to DiMartino.

 The investigation, to include suspected impairment on the behalf of the Chevrolet driver, is ongoing.

KCPD: Adult, 4 children hospitalized after violent crash

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a weekend murder have a suspect in custody.

Just before 11:30a.m. Saturday, police responded to report of a shooting in the 1200 Block of NE Monroe in Topeka, according to Police Lt. Edward Stanley.

First responders located 47-year-old&nbsp;Richard E. Hernandez&nbsp; suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. .

As a result of the investigation police arrested 43-year-old John E. Kyhnell and 39-year-old Steve A. Devries both of Topeka.

Kyhnell is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Kyhnell is jailed on requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. He has previous convictions for aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal possession of a weapon by a felon and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Devries was originally jailed on a requested charge of Murder in the 1st degree. He is no longer in custody.

Just after 10p.m. July 9, a Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop near 150th and Q Road in rural Jackson County on an Oldsmobile Regency for a traffic infraction, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

During the traffic stop, the deputy discovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. 

The front seat passenger, Lisa Ann Tisdale, 59, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and transporting an open container.

On Monday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported troopers responded to a private pond&nbsp; at 7575 W. Sweringen for an individual missing in the water.

 Shamsullah Omar Zai, 32, Columbia, was in a canoe on the pond when it overturned and he was ejected. Zai was unable to swim and was pronounced dead at the scene just before 7p.m. by the Boone County Medical Examiner.&nbsp;

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a deadly shooting in Wichita have identified the victim as&nbsp;29-year-old Deontre Lawrence of Wichita, according to police spokesman Andrew Ford.

Just before 6p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 4800 block of South Gordon in Wichita.&nbsp;While en route to that location, officers encountered another shooting victim in a vehicle at the intersection of 47th and Seneca.

It was later discovered that this incident was connected to the shooting that occurred at 4800 S. Gordon. All four injured victims were transported to a local hospital and are expected to survive their injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. One victim previously considered a person of interest is no longer being considered. 

All the parties involved are known to each other, according to Ford. The details of this case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Donald Trump announced Ohio U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate Monday during the first day of the Republican National Convention, capping off months of speculation about who would get the nod as his vice presidential pick.

Vance has not been a member of Congress long, having less than two years experience as a senator and having voted against major bipartisan bills throughout his tenure in the upper chamber.

Before becoming a U.S. lawmaker, Vance served in the Marine Corps during the Iraq war, worked as a venture capitalist and wrote a book about growing up in Appalachia. He holds a law degree from Yale.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump, who will be nominated as the 2024 Republican presidential candidate on Thursday night, posted on social media.

“J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond….,” Trump added.

Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence has distanced himself from Trump since the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol building — requiring Trump to find a different person to join him on the ticket this year.

Pence was in the Capitol that day, when a pro-Trump mob attacked police officers, broke into building and disrupted Congress’ certification of the electoral college votes for President Joe Biden.

Pence has been critical of how the Republican Party has changed under Trump’s leadership, including&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/gop-convention-go-planned-milwaukee-trump-attendance" target="_blank">rejecting how the platform evolved&nbsp;</a>on abortion this year.

Trump picks Ohio U.S. Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate

SHAWNEE COUNTY –Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman with previous convictions of forgery on new forgery allegaions.

On&nbsp;July 10, police responded to a reported fraudulent check at Azura Credit Union, 1129 S Kansas Avenue in Topeka, according to police spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

The bank reported Tina M. Funk, 31, of Topeka, was attempting to cash a check that was fraudulent.

It was then found that Funk had four outstanding warrants. As a result of the investigation, Funk was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Forgery; Making or altering a written instrument; unknown conviction, Identity theft, Theft by deception; Value less than $1,500, Theft by deception; Value $1,500 to $25,000 and the Warrants.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Funk has previous forgery convictions in Atchison and Jefferson County. She has an ID theft conviction in Morris County, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Kan. woman with forgery convictions stopped while cashing a check

The federal classified documents case against former President Donald Trump was dismissed Monday by a Florida judge on the grounds that the Department of Justice unlawfully appointed special counsel Jack Smith.

The order, while likely to be appealed, makes the possibility even more remote that Trump will be tried before the election on any of the federal charges pending against him. The order came on the first day of the Republican National Convention, during which Trump will be officially nominated as the 2024 GOP presidential candidate.

Trump, who on Saturday&nbsp;<a href="https://penncapital-star.com/campaigns-elections/trump-campaigns-in-western-pennsylvania-with-rally-in-butler-county/" target="_blank">was injured</a>&nbsp;at a Pennsylvania rally in what is being investigated as an attempted assassination, has also been&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/fueled-lies-trump-charged-seeking-overturn-2020-election-6" target="_blank">federally charged</a>&nbsp;in Washington, D.C., for his alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election results. The case is pending as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/presidential-immunity-covers-some-official-acts-supreme-court-rules-trump-case" target="_blank">presidential immunity decision</a>.

In May, Trump was&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/trump-found-guilty-34-felony-counts-ny-hush-money-trial-10" target="_blank">convicted</a>&nbsp;of 34 felonies in New York state court for falsifying business records related to a hush money payment ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Trump’s sentencing has been&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/trump-ny-sentencing-delayed-after-us-supreme-court-presidential-immunity-ruling-3" target="_blank">delayed</a>&nbsp;until September while the court reviews the federal immunity decision.

In Monday’s 93-page&nbsp;<a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24807240-trumpdocumentscase" target="_blank">order</a>, federal District Judge Aileen Cannon wrote Smith’s appointment violates two clauses of the U.S. Constitution that govern how presidential administrations and Congress appoint and approve “Officers of the United States” and how taxpayer money can be used to pay their salaries and other expenses.

“Upon careful study of the foundational challenges raised in the Motion, the Court is convinced that Special Counsel’s Smith’s prosecution of this action breaches two structural cornerstones of our constitutional scheme—the role of Congress in the appointment of constitutional officers, and the role of Congress in authorizing expenditures by law,” wrote Cannon, who sits on the bench in the Southern District of Florida.

She was nominated by Trump in 2020 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate later that year.

In February, Trump’s team filed the&nbsp;<a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653/gov.uscourts.flsd.648653.326.0.pdf" target="_blank">motion</a>&nbsp;to dismiss the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/67490070/united-states-v-trump/?order_by=desc&amp;page=2" target="_blank">case</a>, accusing Smith of being unlawfully appointed and paid.

The classified documents case against Trump presented a historic first for the United States — a former sitting president had never been charged with federal crimes.

A federal grand jury handed up a 37-count indictment in June 2023 charging the former president and his aide Walt Nauta with felonies related to mishandling classified documents after his term in office, including storing them at his Florida Mar-a-Lago estate.

A little over a month later a new indictment was handed up, adding new charges against the former president and also adding Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira as a co-defendant.

Cannon’s order dismisses the July 2023&nbsp;<a href="https://www.justice.gov/storage/US-v-Trump-Nauta-De-Oliveira-23-80101.pdf" target="_blank">superseding indictment</a>.

The court will now close the case and cancel any scheduled hearings. Any pending motions are considered moot, according to Cannon’s order.

The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement Monday that the “breathtakingly misguided ruling flies in the face of long-accepted practice and repetitive judicial precedence.”

“It is wrong on the law and must be appealed immediately. This is further evidence that Judge Cannon cannot handle this case impartially and must be reassigned,” the New York Democrat said.

The order came on the first day of the Republican National Convention, during which Trump will be officially nominated as the 2024 GOP presidential candidate.Trump, who on Saturday&nbsp;<a href="https://penncapital-star.com/campaigns-elections/trump-campaigns-in-western-pennsylvania-with-rally-in-butler-county/" target="_blank">was injured</a>&nbsp;at a Pennsylvania rally in what is being investigated as an attempted assassination, has also been&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/fueled-lies-trump-charged-seeking-overturn-2020-election-6" target="_blank">federally charged</a>&nbsp;in Washington, D.C., for his alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election results. The case is pending as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/presidential-immunity-covers-some-official-acts-supreme-court-rules-trump-case" target="_blank">presidential immunity decision</a>.In May, Trump was&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/trump-found-guilty-34-felony-counts-ny-hush-money-trial-10" target="_blank">convicted</a>&nbsp;of 34 felonies in New York state court for falsifying business records related to a hush money payment ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Federal judge dismisses Trump classified documents criminal case

GEARY COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating an alleged domestic altercation that occurred Sunday on Interstate 70 and have a suspect in custody.

Late Sunday, deputies responded to eastbound Interstate 70 near McDowell Creek Road after a report of a rolling domestic dispute in a passenger car, according to the Geary County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were able to locate the vehicle approximately 12 miles west near Frontage Road in Riley County.

After an investigation deputies arrested 28-year-old Nina Kravtsova of Centerton, Arkansas and booked her into jail just before 2a.m. Monday on requested charges of Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault (Domestic), Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Interference with LEO. 

Kravtsova was later accused of Battery on a Corrections Officer, according to the Sheriff's office.

Missouri Senator demands full-scale investigation on attempted assassination of Trump

KANSAS CITY—A suspect is in custody after a violent incident inside a Kansas City hospital.

Just after 9p.m. Friday, police responded to a report of gunshots fired inside St. Luke's hospital, 4401 Wornall Road, according to Officer&nbsp; Alayna Gonzalez.

&nbsp;Security was notified of a subject who entered the hospital and assaulted a staff member. When attempting to take him into custody, the suspect produced a handgun and fired off a shot. 

The suspect was placed in handcuffs until police arrived on scene. There were no injuries as a result of the shot being fired, according to Gonzalez. Police did not release the name of the suspect.

An arrest was made after one man walked into a Kansas City hospital, assaulted a healthcare worker and then fired a gun.

Just after 9p.m. on Friday, emergency crews were called to St. Luke’s Hospital at 4401 Wornall Road with reports of shots fired inside the hospital.

First responders indicated that security was told about an individual who entered the hospital and assaulted a staff member. When they attempted to take him into custody, the man pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot.

KCPD said the man was put in handcuffs until officers arrived. No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting. No further information has been released.

&nbsp;SEDGWICK COUNTY —The Wichita Police Department reported that 2-year-old Ryan Ramones was located safe. Richard Ramones is currently in custody. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation canceled the Amber Alert.&nbsp;

At 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Ryan Ramones was physically taken from his mother by his father, Richard Ramones, who assaulted the mother. She was holding Ryan at the time of the assault and the father fell into furniture with the child, possibly causing injury to him. 

Richard took the boy and left the residence of 7101 West Shade Apt. 515, in Wichita. He was on foot headed in an unknown direction. The child was believed to be injured and in imminent danger. Police did not release details on the condition of the boy.

EMS transported five passengers in the Chevy including Gary D. Brumley, 80 and Glenna Brumley, 79; both of Louisburg, Kansas; Juneitta F. Brumley, 58; Kayla M. Mcenroe, 25 and Justin Mcenroe, 25, all of Lee's Summit to Centerpoint Medical Center. All seven were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

As the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nato.int/" target="_blank">NATO</a>&nbsp;summit in Washington concluded last week, the U.S. announced its latest security package for Ukraine.&nbsp;

"The Defense Department announced the 61st presidential drawdown authority package, which has an estimated value of $225 million," said Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh during a briefing Friday. "This package will provide Ukraine additional capabilities to meet its most urgent needs and includes one Patriot battery, munitions for rocket systems, and artillery and antitank weapons."

Also among the materials in the latest security assistance package are 155 mm and 105 mm artillery rounds; Javelin and AT-4 antiarmor systems; and small-arms ammunition.&nbsp;

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, the United States has committed more than $53.7 billion in security assistance through both presidential drawdown authority and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.

$53.7 Billion: U.S. spending more on weapons for Ukraine

CASS COUNTY —A Missouri man died in an accident just before 4p.m. Sunday in Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Honda motorcycle driven by Dennis L. Kimberlin, 72, Pleasant Hill was eastbound on Route VV at Route E. The motorcycle traveled off the side of the road and the driver was ejected.

Kimberlin was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Forensic Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

Late Sunday morning Former first lady Melania Trump released a letter following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

In a post on his social media network, former President Donald Trump also thanked “everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.”

“We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness,” he said.

Trump also said, “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families” and he said he’s praying “for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”
