Brian A. Carson, 56, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away on Monday December 21, 2020.

Brian was born on June 7, 1964 in St. Joseph, MO. He graduated Central High School in 1982. After that, he graduated from MWSC with a Bachelor’s in Finance. Brian enjoyed a lifelong career in banking, beginning in the 1980’s at American National Bank (now known as U.S. Bank). Brian loved working with customers and helping people achieve their financial dreams and goals.

Proceeded in death by his father: Calvin “Kit” Carson, originally of Calhoun County, SC and later of St. Joseph. MO; and his favorite nephew, Kelly Embrey of St. Joseph, MO.

He is survived by his loving mother, Shelda Carson, originally of Owensboro, KY, and presently of St. Joseph, MO.

He married his best, most beautiful friend: Jill Elizabeth Gregory-Miller on December 12, 2012 on the Isle of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: His remarkably sweet sisters, Debra Embrey (Steve) of St. Joseph, MO and Lita Wethington of Albany, MO; his trusted stepson, James Miller of Kansas City, MO, and his fashionable trio of rescue dogs: Ralph Lauren, Coco Chanel, and Oscar de la Renta. Brian was a great curator of music. He loved jazz, blues, rock-n-roll, metal, and alternative. He preferred to see his favorite music live in the intimate environs of small club-like venues. Occasionally, and very selectively, Brian would attend a large concert venue depending on the tour. His personal music collection was so diverse and extensive it could rival Spotify.

Brian was officially (and unofficially) the most well versed, encyclopedic fan of The Rolling Stones. If the U.S. Library of Congress ever had questions about the music catalog or the history of the greatest rock-n-roll band, they had only one phone call to make, area code 816. Brian loved fine dining, cooking and entertaining: a passion inspired by his weekly dinners with his favorite cook, his mom. Brian enjoyed specialty dishes from all around the world, but Indian-inspired cuisine was his favorite. If you’ve ever stayed up late to watch Anthony Bourdain, you’d do a double take if you happened to bump into Brian Carson on your lunch break the next day. His nephew, Jackson Gregory, perhaps put it best when he said: “Brian made the best guacamole, and I’ve been to Mexico”.

Creative to the core, Brian lived in the world as a visual connoisseur. He loved art, artifacts, antiques, and architecture. He had a gift for creating ambiance. Shakespeare said: “all the world is a stage”, and if that were true, Brian Carson knew how to set the stage to capture the moment. His historic home impressed many of his guests, all of whom were in awe of his ability to modernize a Middle Eastern decorative aesthetic in the middle of America.

Brian achieved great success in life and attributed it to his belief in and allegiance to the power of manners and courtesy. If you were among the lucky to meet him, you were always properly introduced. If you were among those who knew him, you may have been left wondering why you deserved such kind regard. If you were among those who were close to him, he will be forever in your company.

Aside from his show-stopping manners and genuine kindness, Brian was a patron of the community, an admirer of local arts and a supporter of local causes. He served as a past President, and the current Treasurer, of the Host Lions Club: an honor that made him feel akin to Simba himself, as Brian often wondered how he could succeed the good works of his father. He looked no further than the den of the great gentlemen and gentlewomen of our local Lions Club membership where he found a home volunteering among kindred spirits.

Clinton Gene Potter, 87, of St Joseph, passed away, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in St. Joseph. 

He was born February 19, 1933 in McFall, MO, son of the late Jessie and James Potter. He attended Maysville High School. Clinton married Louise Boles on August 16, 1951. Clinton served in the US Army. He worked at Swift and Company then later Wire Rope Corporation of America, where he retired. He co-owned and operated Potter's Reloading with his wife Louise for over 50 years. Through this business, he met many friends at many trap shooting events and fundraisers and patrons to the shop. Clinton's hobbies included hunting, fishing and trap shooting and he was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church. 

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Elvin and James Potter. 

Survivors include, wife of 69 years, Louise Potter of the home, children, Keith (Ellen) Potter of Clarksdale, MO, Kenneth (Mieka) Potter of Savannah, MO, Karl Potter of St. Joseph, Kirk (Roxie) Potter of St. Joseph, Lori Lambrecht and her fiancé' Ray Walker of St. Joseph, Lisa (Bobby) Trump of St. Joseph, brother, Edsel (Brenda) Potter of King City, MO, grandchildren, Josh, Alisha, Shannon, Dustin, Ben, April, Julie, Michael, Jessica, Dustin, Jeffrey, Nick, Aaron, Chuck, Amy and Matt, 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles A. Smith, 84 of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020, from complications of COVID.

Charles was born October 16, 1936 in Souix City, Iowa to the late Arthur J. and Mildred (Paden) Smith. Charles graduated from Easton High School in January 1955. He married Cora May (Nelson) and of this marriage there were 5 children; Charles Timothy, Mark, Andrew, Matthew, and Brenda. They later divorced after 21 years.

In June of 1978, Charles married Barbara (Gregory) Smith. Children include, Dawn, Genevieve, Wayne, and Samantha.

Charles was in the U.S. Air National Guard for 3 and a half years. He later went on to work at Dugdale Packing Co; Beattie Grocery/HyKlas Dairy for 11 years; Larabee Mills for 11 years; and Johnson Control for 25 years, retiring in 2000.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sister Vickie Nelson; daughter-in-law, Terri Smith; and granddaughter, Ashley Smith.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, of the home; children, Brenda (David) Lebsack, St. Joseph; Charles Timothy (René), Easton; Mark, Maryville; Andy, and Matthew, St. Joseph, Dawn Taylor, Savannah; Genny (Fritz) Adams, St. Joseph; Wayne Gregory, Clarksdale; and Samantha Vogel, St. Joseph; grandchildren, Shallon, Robin, Mandy, Shain, Stacey, Stevie, Shelby, Tyson, Cassie, Dakota, Paige, Gabe, Ian, Dane and Kate; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Joslynn, Saige, Taibor, Khai, Milla, Macy, Lukas, Rylie, Charlie, Creighton, Coralee, Hatfield, Lilliana, Athena, Anastasia, Armani, and Aurora.

Charles was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; and was a minister for the prison system. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge Aries #49.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, December 28 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurlingen, MO. Sophia was born on July 17, 1932 in Eudora, Kansas to Homer H. and Alma M. Kurtz.&nbsp; She was a homemaker.&nbsp; Sophia served on the Elwood City Council 3 terms and the Doniphan County Zoning Board.&nbsp;

She attended the Baptist Church in Fallon, Nevada.&nbsp;

Jerry Eugene Cole, 79, of Hiawatha, KS, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Onawa, IA on May 7, 1941, son of George and Margaret (Hogencamp) Cole Sr.

He attended Onawa Public School. He served his country as a US Marine during the Vietnam

He married the sun in his sky, Candice Jimeson, on May 2nd 1978. He most recently worked at

Brockhoff Manufacturing for many years before retiring in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, a son Cory and Ashley of Lansing, an honorary daughter Andrea and

Alberta Mae Byer, 87, of Hiawatha died on Tuesday December 22, 2020 at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehab Center in Hiawatha.

She was born July 25, 1933 at Hiawatha, Kansas the daughter of Ewald Otto and Edith F. (Martinson) Lange. Alberta attended Hiawatha schools and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1951.

Alberta married Donald C. Byer on August 30, 1953 in Hamlin, Kansas. They had one son Roger. She wrote she has many fond and happy memories of her 7 ½ years of married life. I enjoyed spending time at our home with my husband and son, and together we taught our son what he needed to know in his first 5 years of life. We let him know how very much we loved him.

She worked as an advertising manager of the Hiawatha Daily World, the Everest World, and the Stockyard Journal from 1961-1965. She managed the Dew Drop Inn for 10 years before purchasing it in 1975 and was still managing it after 53 years. In 1961 Alberta bought her home at 709 N. 2nd&nbsp;Street here in Hiawatha. We lived there while Roger went to kindergarten through 12th&nbsp;grade. It was a good feeling being there for Roger during those years. It was very rewarding watching him graduate from high school. Alberta loved to play pool, do garden work, watch TV and cook.

Her fondest memories were watching her son’s many accomplishments in school, his Cub Scout awards and earning his Boy Scout badges including his Eagle Scout award. Roger received many awards while serving his years in the Air Force before his retirement as a Master Sergeant.

Alberta was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary she was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church which is now called the Zion Lutheran Church here in Hiawatha.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961, her parents E.D. and Edith Lange, a brother Richard and a niece Tonya Humble, many aunts, uncles, and many friends.

She is survived by her son Roger and his wife Karen of Papillion, Nebraska, a brother Jimmy Lange and wife Julia of Topeka. Aslo surviving are a niece Terri and a nephew Tim.

Services will be Saturday December 26, 2020 at 1:30 pm, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.&nbsp; Pastor Mike Dunaway will officiate.&nbsp; Interment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

She was a Southwestern Bell operator from 1957-1980, Elaine worked in maintenance at Sherwood medical from 1984-93, and she also worked for the school district for 7 years.

Elaine enjoyed having family gatherings. She loved dancing, gardening, and taking photos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jim Kline and sister, Caroline Klawuhn.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, John; children, John M. She was born July 25, 1926 to Eaver and Daisy (Downs) Hegstrom. Ethel married H.B. Thom September 8, 1946; he preceded her in death March 31, 1997. She was a devout Christian. Her mother was a founding member of the Wyatt Park Christian Church; Ethel followed in her footsteps and became a lifelong member of the church and the Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of American Business Women’s Association, St. Joseph Garden Club and Women’s St. Joseph Bowling Association.

Ethel loved her family and spending time together during holiday and birthday celebrations, baking, playing games and having grandkids sleepovers.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles, Everett, Harold and infant sister, Mabel.

Michael A. Stephenson, 53, of Cameron, MO, formerly of Atchison, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at his home in Cameron. Cremation is planned. Michael served an apprenticeship through the Local 10 Iron Workers Union and has worked the past 34 years for them. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors but his greatest enjoyment were his grandchildren. Daniel Eugene Linebaugh 84, of Stewartsville, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 in a Saint Joseph, MO hospital. 

He was born December 6, 1936 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Estelle "Dolly" and Albert Linebaugh. He graduated from Central High School and St. Joseph Junior College. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He retired from the State of Missouri Highway department as a Senior Highway Designer. He enjoyed bowling, playing pitch, and going to the casino. He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite, a member of the Moila Shrine and a Pentecostal. 

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Matthew Linebaugh. Dale Wesley Warner (92), born on July 21, 1928 in Cedar Falls, Iowa peacefully passed away on December 21, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri after battling Covid-19. 

Dale served in the Army and then married the love of his life, Mary Margret (Richey) Warner on July 6, 1957. They resided in California where Dale worked and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital. Dale and Mary served in ministry as the pastors of Ambassadors of Faith Christian Center in Saint Joseph where their strong faith and passion for helping those less fortunate was apparent when they launched and operated a food pantry to feed the needy in Saint Joseph. 

Dale is survived by his children, Cynde (Gregg) Hoffman, Jerry (Elizabeth Rosanne Delzer) Warner and Kevin Warner, his grandchildren Michael Warner, Debbie Warner, Benjamin Hoffman and Madison Hoffman, his sister Patricia (Mark) Pfaltzgraff, brother Howard and many nieces and nephews. 

Dale was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his sons Michael and Reggie (Lonelle) Warner, grandson Philip Duke, his parents, John Boyd and Minnie Mae (Yarrington) Warner, his brothers John Warner, Mike Warner, Bernard Warner, William Warner and sister LaDonne Hancock.

He is survived by his wife Sue and son Brian (Micky).

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Viola Shirley.

Howard received his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of South Dakota and spent thirty years as a counselor and taught psychology courses at several schools.&nbsp; He was a follower of Jesus Christ and enjoyed preaching at forty churches which he served as interim pastor.

Howard will be cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born October 12, 1944 to Frank A. and Lalah J (Watt) O’Konski. Phillip attended Cathedral grade school and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1962. He graduated from Missouri Western State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. He had been employed as a purchasing manager for Union Carbide, and also was a member of the Air National Guard.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ann Lechler. Survivors include his brother, Paul O’Konski (Sharon); and nephews, Greg and Ted O’Konski.

He was born September 18, 1954 in St. Joseph, Missouri son of the late Macel &amp; William Merritt. He worked as a greenskeeper at the Fairview golf course and several courses in Kansas City. He enjoyed fishing, and working at the golf courses. 

James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon Merritt, brothers, William and Darrell Merritt.

He was born June 27, 1947 in Maryville, MO, son of Evelyn and Roy Nelson. He graduated from Rosendale High School, class of 1965. He married Trudy Vannaman on July 2, 1971 in St. Joseph. Steve was a Painter for St. Joseph Structural Steel and later Midland Steel. He later worked in the Shipping and Receiving Department at Wal-Mart, from which he retired. Steve was an avid dog lover, enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola and Pepsi memorabilia and he loved watching wrestling, and his soap operas. He was a member of Journey Baptist Church. 

Steven was preceded in death his parents, brothers, Ronald and Donald Nelson, sister, Marilyn Sweet and brother-in-law, Wesley Boyer.

Steve Nelson  1947 - 2020

William "Bill" Neiderhouse, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away, Saturday, December 19, 2020 in St. Joseph. 

He was born March 19, 1940 in Forest City, MO, son of Mabel and William Neiderhouse. He married Margaret Meade on October 10, 1959 in St. Joseph. Bill drove a truck delivering building supplies for many years. His hobbies included playing cards, working on cars and he was an avid KC Chiefs fan. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Jennifer Neiderhouse and sister, Louise Newkirk. 

Survivors include, wife, Margaret Neiderhouse of the home, son, Bill Neiderhouse, Jr. of St. Joseph, daughter, Angie Nelson of St. Joseph, granddaughters, Michelle (Michael) Ray of St Joseph, and, Nicole Nelson and her fiancé Jeffrey Clarke of Madison, WI and two great-grandchildren, Brennden and Kayleigh Ray.

Mr. Neiderhouse has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home.

William "Bill" A. Neiderhouse  1940 - 2020

Jewel Harms, 102, went gladly into the waiting arms of her Lord and&nbsp; Savior on December 19, 2020. 

She grew up in a small town in southern&nbsp; Missouri and was married to Otto Harms in 1942 by his father, a&nbsp; Lutheran Minister, with Otto’s little sister playing the organ.&nbsp;

Jewel was passionate about gardening and nature and shared her artistic gifts as a floral designer. She always wore a beautiful smile on&nbsp; her face and was the eternal optimist. To the very end of her life she&nbsp; retained the ability to patiently and truly listen, and had a remarkable&nbsp; capacity to remember dates and details. An active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jewel never wavered in her deep faith, often&nbsp; reminding us that God is in control, no matter how crazy life gets.&nbsp;

Jewel was preceded in death by Otto and survived by their children,&nbsp; Bruce, Ken and Joy, five wonderful grandchildren and nine amazing&nbsp; great grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her family is truly grateful for the loving services provided by the&nbsp; Freudenthal Hospice team - her band of angels. Jewel’s last words on&nbsp; this earth were, “For it is by grace that I have been saved...” (Ephesians&nbsp; 2:8-9).&nbsp;

Funeral services for family, friends and church members will be held&nbsp; graveside on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
