GENTRY COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 1:30a.m. Saturday in Gentry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1988 Honda 650 NX driven by Devin M. Johnson, 27, Alanthus Grove, was northbound on Route B two miles south of&nbsp;Alanthus Grove. The driver fell off the motorcycle.

Grand River Ambulance transported Johnson to KU Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

Missouri man injured in fall from motorcycle

ATCHISON—Law enforcement authorities are investigating alleged criminal damage after an explosion at a home in Atchison.

At 8:30p.m. on Monday, police responded to the 1700 block Chestnut to investigate a report of an explosion, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

When officers arrived at the home., police was determined that there had been a dispute outside the residence that included a 56-year-old woman who lived at the home and 34-year-old Kevin L. Berning of Atchison who had arrived in a truck. 

During the disturbance Berning took a wooden trunk from his truck and threw it on the porch of the residence while the woman was standing nearby. It is believed that Berning had placed some type of explosive device inside the trunk before throwing it on the porch. 

The trunk exploded, damaging items on the porch including a mailbox, a chair, a flower pot, and a door. No one was injured. Berning had left the area before officers arrived. 

Police took him into custody on Thursday morning on requested charges of&nbsp;aggravated assault, arson, and criminal damage to property, according to Wilson.

Kansas man accused of throwing explosive on woman's porch

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Chevy HHR driven by Rachel L. Franklin, 43, Princeton, was westbound on Route E five miles southeast of Princeton.

The vehicle crossed the center line, traveled in the eastbound lane. An eastbound 2023 eastbound GMC 3500 driven by Eldo E. Eaglen, 27, Milan, attempted to avoid the Chevy by swerving to the left. The passenger side of the vehicles impacted. After impact the Chevy rotated, traveled off the south side of the road and caught fire.

Life Flight Eagle transported Franklin to St. Luke's in Kansas City. Eaglen was not injured. Franklin was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Missouri woman injured after 2-vehicle crash, fire

The official start to Chiefs Training Camp is just around the corner as rookies and quarterbacks wrapped up their final practice today at Missouri Western State University.  

Chiefs President Mark Donovan says it's exciting to be back in St. Joseph and on the Missouri Western campus for another year of camp. 

"There's a lot of excitement within our organization, there's a lot of excitement around the team, the players, the coach's, etc., they're excited to be back," Donovan tells reporters. "And they're excited to be back in St. Joe who just treat us so well every single year, there's a reason we keep coming back." 

As Chiefs Training Camp begins a looming question is will the reigning Super Bowl champions return to St. Joseph next year.  

This is the last guaranteed year Missouri Western is under contract to host the Chiefs for training camp.  

When asked if the Chiefs would like to return, Donovan counters with the question why wouldn't they? 

"It's been a great partnership, it's been something that as I said we're proud to have been here 14 of the last 15 years, we expect that to continue," Donovan says. "We'll do what we always do, and it's a great relationship, because we will get through this camp (and) at the end of camp we'll sit down and talk about what went well, where are the challenges, what was better this year than last year, what was worse than last year, what can we do to improve?" 

As for this year's camp, the first practice open to the public is on Sunday at 9:15.  There will be a $5 admission fee and tickets must be acquired online.

Final practice for rookies and quarterbacks provides extra opportunity

Ahead of the official start to Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri Western rookies and quarterbacks had one final practice before the full team reports to campus.  

Several veterans, including Patrick Mahomes and Carson Wentz, sat out today to give younger players valuable reps.  

Quarterback Chris Oladokuen says while getting extra reps is great, everyone is critical 

"It's good to see live color and then go in there and get in the classroom and see and make those corrections," Oladokun tells reporters following practice.  "It's really important for me especially, when Pat and Carson come back those reps get pretty short, so every rep is critical for me."

Chiefs President says team excited to be back in St. Joseph in last year of contract with MWSU

Former Missouri Chamber of Commerce President,
Dan Mehan, has retired after 29 years with the Chamber, 26 as president.

Mehan looks back with pride on the Chamber’s
accomplishments, especially its wins in the Missouri legislature, pushing for
workers compensation reform, changes to civil jurisprudence, economic
development, and infrastructure.

“Nothing less than historic this last year when
we’ve funded I-70 reconstruction and serious improvements for Interstate 44 as
well,” Mehan tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.

The Missouri legislature has approved widening
Interstate 70 between Kansas City and St. Louis from four lanes to six lanes.
Construction has begun in mid-Missouri. This year, the legislature approved
widening I-44 at congested points between the Oklahoma state line and St.
Louis.

Mehan began as a lobbyist for the Chamber,
representing its interests during legislative sessions in Jefferson City, testifying
before legislative committees and meeting with legislators.

As president, Mehan led the Chamber to become
more active politically, forming both the Missouri Chamber Political Action
Committee and the Missouri Political Institute.

“This is not a sport for the timid, politics that
is,” Mehan says. “Business deserves and has the right to be heard as much as any
constituency out there.”

Mehan also helped the Chamber establish a 15-year
strategic plan called Missouri 2030:&nbsp; An
Agenda to Lead, which he says has been instrumental in passing some needed
economic proposals.

“Very proud of that impact that we’ve been able
to have and the support that we’ve been able to earn,” Mehan says. “At first,
there’s going to be doubt in any new idea, but once you prove it and once we
were able to do what we said we were going to do, then the support and the confidence
and the trust just flowed from that.”

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce search for a
successor begins soon.

MO Chamber President Mehan steps down after 29 years

A former St. Joseph State Hospital mental patient,
incarcerated for the past 43 years for a 1980 St. Joseph murder, could soon be
free.

The Missouri Supreme Court has cleared the way for the release
of Sandra Hemme from the Chillicothe women’s prison.

Livingston County Circuit Judge Ryan Horsman earlier found
there is credible evidence of Hemme’s innocence. An appeals court agreed and
ruled Hemme should be released while the case is under review.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey objected to her
release and pressed his case before the Missouri Supreme Court, but Hemme’s attorneys
argued that keeping her incarcerated any longer would be a “draconian outcome.”

The Missouri Supreme Court has upheld the lower court ruling
that would allow her to be placed in the custody of her sister in Higginsville.

Hemme is now 64. She has been serving life in prison after her
conviction in the death of St. Joseph State Hospital librarian Patricia
Jeschke. Judge Horsman, though, found evidence in the case points to her actual
innocence, stating she is a victim of a manifest injustice. Hemme confessed to
the crime, but evidence implicated Michael Holman, a St. Joseph police officer
fired from the force. Holman died in 2015.

I-29 through St. Joseph reopened shortly before eight o’clock Thursday night after Clarkson Construction completed the latest portion of
the Cook Road Bridge replacement project. Clarkson removed the deck of the
bridge and set new girders.

Reconstruction of the bridge has not been completed. The
Missouri Department of Transportation estimates the project will be completed by
October. Overnight lane closures of I-29 are anticipated throughout the
project. MoDOT says lane closures might occur between 7pm and 7am at various
dates throughout the project. There will be a 12-foot width restriction in
place during those closures.

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Office of the Kansas State Treasurer has learned that a Kansas resident was the victim of a scam by a government imposter. 

The scammer contacted the victim via phone call and claimed to be a representative of the Kansas State Treasurer’s office. The victim was told that he had recently won a sizable sum of money from the lottery. The scammer then informed the victim that collecting his lottery winnings would require a payment.

The victim was directed to wire funds as well as load money onto a gift card and once payment was received, the scammer indicated the State Treasurer would visit his home to present the winnings.

Imposter scammers may call, text or email to begin their scam. They often use caller ID to deceptively appear like the communication is coming from a reputable entity. Any request to make a payment in order to receive funds is likely fraud. Furthermore, any request for payment using gift cards is never a legitimate method a government entity would utilize.

“Imposter scams are a rising trend in Kansas,” said State Treasurer Steven Johnson. “Kansans should be aware that the State Treasurer’s office is not involved in the delivery of lottery winnings.”

The Office of the Kansas State Treasurer is currently the custodian of over $640 million in unclaimed property owed to Kansans. The distribution of those funds to the rightful owners never requires fees to be paid. Individuals and businesses can search for missing money at <a href="http://www.unclaimedproperty.ks.gov">www.unclaimedproperty.ks.gov</a>.

Treasurer: Kansan scammed by government imposter

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Chevy Colorado driven by Donald O. Bevelle, 91, Chillicothe, was&nbsp; southbound on U.S. 65 at LIV 415 five miles south of Chillicothe.

The pickup rear-ended a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner driven by Judy L. Frazier, 75, Chillicothe, who was slowing to turn.&nbsp;

Bevelle was transported to Hedrick Medical Center. Frazier was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

91-year-old Missouri driver hospitalized after rear-end crash

The K State womens basketball team will come to St. Joseph once again as the St. Joseph Sports Commission announces the second annual Bill Snyder Women's Classic. 

The game will feature an intriguing non conference matchup between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.  Tip off in the game is currently scheduled for 5pm on December 14th.

“We have a lot of sports momentum on several levels in St. Joseph right now and to have the honor of once again hosting Division I Women’s Basketball College Basketball between two programs that won a combined 56 games last season including each winning a game in the NCAA Tournament will be an absolute thrill and must ticket come this December,” said Brett Esely, Executive Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission in a news release

The title of the game further signifies and celebrates the legend of St. Joseph native and College Football Hall of Fame Coach Bill Snyder.  

This will be the 4thall-time meeting between the two schools including the 2nd time on a neutral floor with Kansas State holding a 2-1 series advantage. K-State won the first two matchups 54-53 at MTSU in 2001 and 79-61 in Manhattan in 2002.  The Blue Raiders won the most recent match-up in 2010, 63-49 on a neutral court.

“The resumes of both of these teams not only in recent history, but all-time is simply impressive.  To think that a marquee matchup like this between two nationally ranked programs with coaches who have won more than 1,100 career games combined play right here in St. Joseph is an extremely big deal and we look forward to a packed house creating a great environment for this game this December,” Esely stated.

In the inaugural Bill Snyder Classic played December 9, 2023, K-State defeated Mizzou in front of a capacity crowd 84-56.

Ticket information will be released in mid to late August.

The game will feature an intriguing non conference matchup between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Tip off in the game is currently scheduled for 5pm on December 14th.“We have a lot of sports momentum on several levels in St. Joseph right now and to have the honor of once again hosting Division I Women’s Basketball College Basketball between two programs that won a combined 56 games last season including each winning a game in the NCAA Tournament will be an absolute thrill and must ticket come this December,” said Brett Esely, Executive Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission in a news releaseThe title of the game further signifies and celebrates the legend of St. Joseph native and College Football Hall of Fame Coach Bill Snyder. This will be the 4thall-time meeting between the two schools including the 2nd time on a neutral floor with Kansas State holding a 2-1 series advantage. K-State won the first two matchups 54-53 at MTSU in 2001 and 79-61 in Manhattan in 2002. The Blue Raiders won the most recent match-up in 2010, 63-49 on a neutral court.“The resumes of both of these teams not only in recent history, but all-time is simply impressive. To think that a marquee matchup like this between two nationally ranked programs with coaches who have won more than 1,100 career games combined play right here in St. Joseph is an extremely big deal and we look forward to a packed house creating a great environment for this game this December,” Esely stated.In the inaugural Bill Snyder Classic played December 9, 2023, K-State defeated Mizzou in front of a capacity crowd 84-56.Ticket information will be released in mid to late August.

Tractors will be cruising around the countryside in Holt County this weekend as part of the 11th annual Keep Missouri Farming Tractor Cruise fundraiser to benefit the Missouri Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.

Jason Kurtz, with Missouri Farm Bureau, says registration will be held at 7:30 Saturday morning at Squaw Creek Trap Range in Mound City.

All age tractors may participate but it was noted they cannot have duals or implements attached. The registration cost for open-station tractors is $35 and air-conditioned tractors are $50. Lunch is included with that fee.

After traveling a total of forty miles throughout the county, lunch will be served at 11:30 at River of Hope Fellowship. Vernon Hart, with Missouri Farm Bureau, says, "Its a pork lunch with three or four sides. So we have a great meal for the drivers." Hart added that members of the public can attend the lunch and tickets will be available on-site. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Keep Missouri Farming Tractor Cruise in Holt County this Weekend

AFL-CIO Community Services annual shoe distribution program is happening next month, but currently it is need of donations.   

The Soles 4 Christ shoe distribution program is happening August 12th and 13th at the Scottish Rites in St. Joseph, however the need for shoes currently is critical.  

Executive Director Nichi Seckinger says currently there is a need for almost every size of tennis shoe for this year's distribution.  

"COVID kind of threw everything into flux, and we didn't get very many donations those few years following that, " Seckinger tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "But the participation in the program has started to increase again, as far as the kids are concerned, but donations haven't caught back up to participation numbers." 

Seckinger says while there is a need for all sizes of tennis shoes currently, there are certain sizes that are snatched up faster than others. 

"Youth size one, really all the way up through adult size 12, we cover that gambit and use those a lot," Seckinger explains. "We tend to run out of both boys and girls between size two and size five." 

Seckinger says they also often run out of adult sizes eight through twelve shoes.  

During last year's program the agency provided shoes to nearly 11 hundred kids (1,062). 

Seckinger says that's an increase from the previous year by about 60 to 70 kids.  

"So, we are expecting this year to be in the 1,100 range for sure and we are seeing a lot more inquiries about the program right now, people calling to get the dates and asking about when the events going to be held," Seckinger says. "So, we're really anticipating more people participating this year than we even saw last year." 

New tennis shoes can be donated at the AFL-CIO Community Services offices.  Toddler size five through ten, youth sizes 11 to six, and all adult sizes are recommended.

Donations needed for annual Soles 4 Christ program

Early practices in Chiefs training camp on the Missouri Western campus have been key for one rookie running back, transitioning to a new sport.  

Louis Rees-Zammit is a former union rugby player from Wales that has long dreamed of playing in the NFL and is getting his chance with the Chiefs.  

Rees-Zammit says a key for him right now is getting to know the playbook. 

"Cause I'm playing catchup with a lot of people that have played American football since they were little kids, six years old, so there's no time to rest for me," Rees-Zammit tells the media following practice. "I've got to give this my all because ultimately this is my dream and to make it come true then I've got to play, I've got to be a step ahead of a lot of people." 

Rees-Zammit says the first goal to consider his rookie campaign successful is to make the team and knows a big part of that will be contributing on special teams. 

"Been working really hard on that with Coach (Dave) Toub and Coach (Andy) Hill, and just learning the playbook as I said," Rees-Zammit says. "Learning the running back roles, being able to learn pass protection, and then learning my routes off that, I think all of that adds up and the main way I'm going to make this team is by learning pass protection and being able to be a key role on special teams."

Entering a packed tight end room, the Chiefs fourth round pick has one goal in mind during his first Chiefs Training Camp. 

Jared Wiley from TCU says his biggest goal this training camp is just to prove he can contribute 

"I know what's in our room, we've got me, Irv (Smith Jr.), Noah (Gray), Gerrit (Prince), obviously Trav, we have a really talented group," Wiley explains. "So if I can find a way to come in and contribute as much as I possibly can, whether it's on special teams, anything they want me to do on offense, that'd be my biggest goal just to prove that i belong in that room and to be able to be on the field with those guys." 

One more practice will be held for rookies and quarterbacks tomorrow.  The full team reports to St. Joseph tomorrow evening, before the first full practice open to the public on Sunday where there will be a $5 admission fee.

One Chiefs rookie is not just new to the team, but new to the sport

Buchanan County Commissioners will freeze
property tax assessments for residents 62 and older, under the provisions of a
new state law.

The Missouri General Assembly approved a bill last
year authorizing counties to keep assessments from rising for older residents.
It expanded who is eligible this year.

The Buchanan County Commission has informally
endorsed enacting the law locally.

Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner Scott
Nelson says he wants to make it as easy as possible for residents to apply for
the tax break.

“We need to think in terms of the people, a
person who is over 62 that, let’s just assume that they own their house, they
live in their house, it’s their primary residence, all that,” Nelson tells host
Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. “Okay, what do I do? Do I just come to the
courthouse, stand in the middle, and have everybody come to me or what? So what
is the process to get signed up?”

Nelson says the county commission has been
discussing the process with the appropriate county officeholders. The
officeholders have been instructed to report back to the commission on a
proposed process.

The commission is also reaching out to similar
counties on how they have or plan to implement holding the property tax
assessments of older residents steady.

“Now, we’re not reinventing the wheel. We are
looking at similar counties, first-class counties and chartered. So, Boone
County, Greene County, Clay County, Platte County, there are some other ones I’m
missing,” Nelson says. “We are probably going to use as our fist draft for
application Boone County’s (process).”

Nelson says the original law was confusing. He
says the legislature not only expanded the bill to include retirees who don’t
receive Social Security benefits, but it also clarified provisions in the old
law.

Buchanan CO moving to enact snr citizen property tax freeze

At the beginning of each month, 4-year-old Ada Caldwell, 4,&nbsp; runs to the mailbox to see what new book is inside.

“She gets excited about going to get the mail,” said Ada’s mother, Tara Caldwell. “Not many things come in the mail anymore. She really likes that part of it.”

The free books are sent to Ada’s mid-Missouri home by the Imagination Library, a nationwide program that singer Dolly Parton started in 1995 to send books to any child under 5 who registers, regardless of&nbsp; family income. The idea is to foster reading early in a child’s life.

By 2016, Imagination Library was sending a million books a month to children around the globe. In November, Missouri signed on to help fund the program and pledged to introduce books to children in all of the state’s 114 counties.By the end of June, 137,434 Missouri children like Ada had registered, and 751,730 books had been distributed.

If a child registers at birth and remains in the program for five years they could receive over 60 books for their home library, said Mallory McGowin with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Dolly Parton launched the Imagination Library in 1995. The first few books were only given to children in Sevier County, Tennessee, where Parton grew up. She created the program as a tribute to her father, who was not able to read.

“You can never get enough books into the hands of children,” Parton said in a statement on her website.

After the success of the program in 2000, a national replication was underway. By 2003 the program had mailed 1 million books throughout the U.S.

As the program continued, it spread to Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Republic of Ireland, allowing children all over the world to have a special surprise waiting for them every month.

Today, the Imagination Library gifts over 2 million free books each month to children all over the world. As of April, more than 238 million books had been shipped worldwide.

Every county in Missouri has children enrolled in the Imagination Library of Missouri. Among those, 23 counties have more than 50% of the eligible children in their county enrolled, McGowin said.

Tara Caldwell, has two children enrolled in the program — Ada and Hazel, 10 months.

She registered her daughters the first day the statewide program went live Nov. 8.

“It was so many people signing up, and the site was busy, but I got them signed up right away,” Caldwell said.

Every book sent to a child is free, age-appropriate and personalized with the child’s name.

The first book her daughters received was “The Little Engine That Could,” a Dolly Parton favorite every child receives as their first book.

Caldwell said she is impressed that her daughters have been receiving individualized books for their age ranges, along with seasonal books.

Ada received books about gardening, bees and first-day-of school jitters, but her favorite is “Cinderella with Dogs,”&nbsp; a fun spin on the popular story Cinderella.

Hazel gets books tailored to toddlers, including “A Very Hungry Caterpillar’s First Summer,” a book about shapes, and couple of Eric Carle books.

Caldwell said she maintains the element of wonder with her daughters.

“You can look at the book list online but they never do, because I want it to be a surprise,”&nbsp;she said.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has funding to administer the Imagination Library. There is no cost to schools or family, McGowin said.

The Dollywood Foundation selects and manufactures the books. The state covers the cost of the books for the children registered in Missouri as well as the cost to mail the books to their homes she said.

Every year, the&nbsp;Blue Ribbon Book Selection Committee, a specially selected panel of early childhood literacy experts, is responsible for reviewing hundred of potential titles for inclusion in the Imagination Library.

The committee is in charge of choosing books that meet the different need of children as they progress from birth to age 5.

Parents are encouraged to read the books as soon as they arrive and then repeat them multiple times while asking questions, pointing out letters and words, and noticing the sounds.

Science shows that the more kids interact with text at a young age and the more print-rich their environment is, the better equipped they are to read.

“Kids become better readers when they can talk about what they read,” said Rock Bridge High School Reading Specialist Daryl Moss.

It is important for them to understand that certain symbols are associated with different sounds and come together in ways that have further meaning,” he said.

“People use them to create words and those words create sentences.”

Many parents struggle with teaching their children how to read because things have changed since they were in school.

“It is not about teaching children how to read,” Moss said. “It is about bringing the joy of reading to them so they want to read more.”

Nearly 140,000 Missouri kids under 5 get free books every month

Fire destroyed an unoccupied house on Church Street in St.
Joseph Tuesday night.

St. Joseph firefighters responded to the call at 1211 Church
Street around 10 o’clock. Fire had already consumed much of the back of the
structure upon their arrival. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.

St. Joseph fire officials report no one was in the house at
the time of the fire. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

Fire destroys unoccupied house on Church St. in St. Joseph

St. Joseph police are investigating a drive-by shooting in the
2200 block of South 16th Street.

A witness reports six to seven shots were fired from the
vehicle, which fled the area. Police officers report no one was harmed and no property damage has
been discovered. Officers did recover shell casings from the scene.

The St. Joseph Police Department reports the call came in
shortly after 7:30 Tuesday night. No suspects have been apprehended. The
investigation continues.

Chiefs Training Camp is now open with quarterbacks and rookies
reporting to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs need to stay
hungry even though they are coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories.

“We’re back in St. Joe, it’s time to get better,” Mahomes tells
reporters as training camp officials gets underway. “Every season starts
different. You’ve got to come in with the same mentality you had the year
before, even a higher intensity. Even though we won the Super Bowl last year,
we feel like we didn’t play our best football, especially offensively. It’s our
goal to be better that way and we have to come with that mentality every single
day.”

Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid says training camp prepares the
team for a grueling season by sharpening their mental and physical abilities.

“If you’re fatigued then you’re going to be fatigued mentally.
If you’re fatigued physically that’s going to affect you mentally. And if you’re
fatigued period, then you can’t think and you can’t play, at least not to the best
of your ability,” Reid says during the news conference. “So, the objective here
is let’s get ourselves in shape, make sure we’re in football shape. They’re all
going to come back in shape, but let’s get ourselves in football shape.”

Mahomes says it’s important for the team to sequester itself
on the Missouri Western campus and focus on football.

“Being in the building and being at lunch together, being at
dinner together, always kind of being around the guys, you build this kind of
culture and this family-type brotherhood,” according to Mahomes. “I’m excited
to continue to do that with a lot of new faces and then with guys that have
been here before, because we know this is what it takes in order for us to go
out there and be great.”

Not all the team is in St. Joseph. This week, only the quarterbacks
and rookies attend practice. Practices this week are closed to the public. The
full team reports Sunday.

Reid values this time to bring the team together and prepare
for a tough football season.

“Listen, we look forward to being back here. We love the set
up here. The people here treat us great at Missouri Western State University; beautiful
facilities,” Reid tells reports standing outside Scanlon Hall, which will be
their home for the next few weeks. “It’s great to be able to get away from the
city and be able to house guys in the same dorm. I’m saying this as a coach and
they probably aren’t going to say this, but it builds a certain camaraderie.”

Chiefs Training Camp begins for the full team Sunday morning
with a 9:15am start at MWSU. There is a $5 admission fee for the practice on
Sunday, the first open to the public.

The Chiefs return to St. Joseph, seeking a 3rd straight Super Bowl

Mosaic Life Care is once again ready to offer medical services to coaches, players, staff, and visitors to Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp on the Missouri Western State University campus in Saint Joseph.

Trauma and Stroke Services program manager and lead medical contact for training camp, Jonathan Eivins, says there are two triage tents this year, along with cooling stations and a medical building on site.

"We're going to have our staff roving in certain areas and keeping track of everybody and watching out for any kind of conditions that can arise, such as lacerations or heat exhaustion," Eivins said.

With summer temperatures soaring recently, Eivins advises visitors to dress appropriately, wear bright colors to reflect sunlight, and stay hydrated.&nbsp;

Eivins also noted there is equipment available to assist with any potential life-threatening conditions.&nbsp;

Eivins says in a 2 1/2 hour period, staff can attend to as many as twenty-five to thirty people.Medical staff will be dressed in electric blue outfits this year, and Eivins encourages attendees to flag down staff if they notice anyone needing help.&nbsp;Two ambulances will be on sight in the case of life-threatening emergencies.
