Pony Express Farmers Market opens this weekend

The Beer Walk for the Arts is returning as one of St. Joseph’s most fun-filled events!&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Guests will have the opportunity to sample foods paired with 12 different craft beers, hear live music, tour historic homes and see artists demonstrating their talents.

The event is hosted by the Allied Arts Council from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Museum Hill Historic District on May 13. It is a fundraiser for the Arts Fund, which provides funding to seven St. Joseph, Missouri arts agencies.&nbsp; 

Tickets are $50 for two if purchased by April 30, otherwise tickets are $35 per person. It was noted that tickets are limited to the first 250 guests.

Check in for event goers is at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion, 1100 Charles Street, where guests will get their wristbands and tour maps.&nbsp; The Mansion will also be the location for the final pour accompanied by the opportunity to enjoy music by a live band.

The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art will present an art fair this summer.

The art fair is scheduled for June 3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Albrecht-Kemper Art Fair set for June 3

You'll have the opportunity to see all the great, creative films students at Missouri Western State University are producing at the Historic Missouri Theatre at the eighth annual Griffon Film Festival.

The festival is set for April 28 at the historic Missouri Theatre in St. Joseph.

The film festival is presented by Missouri Western State University, the School of Fine Arts and the Performing Arts Association.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with shows running from 7 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $5 at the Missouri Theatre Box Office. Students get in free with school ID.

Spring is here and that means summer is just around the corner which signals the beginning of an annual summer concert series in St. Joseph.&nbsp;

Parties on the Parkway hosted by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce will kick off next month on the south side of St. Joseph near Benton High School. &nbsp;

Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Kristi Bailey says the summer concerts are always popular with the community.&nbsp;

"Bring their friends, their dogs, and come out for free music, there's always food and drink available," Bailey tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "This year we have an ice cream truck that's going to be at every single event and a balloon artist for the kids that's going to be at every single event, so it's always popular."&nbsp;

Bailey adds though that she's always seeing new faces that have never been and encourages everyone to bring people out to the concerts. &nbsp;

The concert series will kick off with the bluegrass band The Matchsellers on May 11th at SW Parkway and King Hill Drive.&nbsp;

Bailey says every year the community helps nominate bands for the event, which helps find a variety of genres&nbsp;

"We don't want to be all country all the time, we don't want to be all rock all the time, we try to mix it up," Bailey says.&nbsp;

Bailey says the community helping choose the bands by nominating them also encourages people to come out to the event&nbsp;

"The more people are involved in nominating who's going to be there, if someone you nominated is selected I defintly hope you're going to come to that event," Bailey says.&nbsp; "Because you are a part of the process."&nbsp;

And Bailey says this year’s concerts will feature something new called The Prize Patrol&nbsp;

"We've never had a prize patrol before, so this year United Fiber is sponsoring a prize patrol," Bailey explains. "So, each Parties on the Parkway, residents that come out are likely to win prizes just for showing up, so that will be something new and fun."'&nbsp;

Concerts will be held the second Thursday of every month from 5 to 8 pm. If rain forces a cancelation, it will be moved to the third Thursday of that month.&nbsp;

Party on the Parkway in St. Joseph as annual concert series returns

A new museum in the birthplace of famous pilot Amelia Earhart is walking museum goers through the life of Earhart. &nbsp;

The $17 Million museum was opened in Atchison, Kansas by the Amelia Earhart Foundation.&nbsp;

Founder and President of the foundation Karen Seaberg says the museum is a unique mixture of history and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.)&nbsp;

"There are a lot of STEM museums, there are a lot of history museums, but there are rarely any that can do both," Seaberg tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.&nbsp;

Seaberg says the museum centers around Earhart's life and every exhibit is interactive, including a VR experience flying Earhart's plane across the Atlantic.&nbsp;

And upstairs, Seaberg says there is even more to experience.&nbsp;

"You can shoot the stars, or look at the stars, just like Fred Noonan would have on the flight around the world," Seaberg says.&nbsp; "And you can use the sextant, you can work with radio waves, the atmospheric pressures you have all the way up to space."&nbsp;

Noonan was the navigator that traveled with Earhart on her journey around the world which departed on May 21, 1937.&nbsp;

Downstairs in the museum children can even dress up as Earhart in four of her different careers, which Seaberg says was a big hit with focus groups.&nbsp;

The museum displays the life and adventures of the pilot born in Atchison, Kansas. But it also explores the theories behind her disappearance. &nbsp;

Seaberg says while the museum does not focus entirely on the theories, they do have an interesting way to explore those theories&nbsp;

"We pick six of the (theories), there's multiple theories, but we choose six, and we give a for and against," Seaberg explains. "So, you get to see why that may have happened or was it crazy, and then at the end you actually get to vote for which of the six you believe."&nbsp;

Seaberg says the museum is the first of its kind and something that Atchison has never had before.&nbsp;

"We've had the wonderful birthplace, and it's a beautiful home museum, but as far as I know there's nothing across the nation," Seaberg says. "There are a lot of things named for Amelia Earhart all across the nation, even internationally in Derry Northern Ireland and other places, but nothing that combines the STEM and Amelia's history."&nbsp;
